Pawn protections pass
The Shawnee News-Star
Shawnee City Commission voted to approve an ordinance related to pawn shops and secondhand dealers. In a memorandum, Police Chief Russell Frantz said the police department was asking for a change that would “make it harder for people to pawn stolen items.” “The revised ordinance will require photos of items and identification, thus making it easier to catch persons trying to use pawn shops for illegal gains,” Frantz explained. When the change goes into effect in 30 days, pawnbrokers and secondhand dealers will be required to take a photograph and the thumbprint of sellers.

Gold embracing dollar once more as haven demand fails to emerge
Bloomberg Business
The dollar is dominating the gold market. With markets showing relative calm in the face of Greece’s debt crisis and equities near all-time highs, there’s little demand for the safety of haven assets like gold, giving changes in the dollar more sway. The metal has moved in the opposite direction as the Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index every day except one this month.

How to cultivate brand authenticity for your business
    Emma Fitzpatrick
Brand authenticity is a term you hear a lot, but not everyone knows how to define exactly what the term means. Typically, you know it when you see it — and when you don't. For example, Spirit Airlines was in the hot seat recently for automating their social media platform. Customers looking for that personal touch got bombarded with canned responses. Yikes. The airline completely missed the point of social media — genuine connections between consumers and authentic brands.

Violent crime in North Carolina city up even as overall crime rate falls
    Star News
Violent crimes reported in Wilmington, North Carolina rose from 2013 to 2014, according to reports by the FBI, but officials say overall crime is down to the lowest levels they have seen in years nationally, statewide and in Wilmington. Burglaries dropped 15.5 percent, from 767 in 2013 to 648 in 2014, in the biggest percentage drop of the categories. “We have a real active neighborhood watch, burglaries are down, larcenies and thefts are down – that is all because people are looking out for one another,” Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous said. He also gave credit to the department's adoption of national pawnshop software that allows the WPD to track property being bought and sold across the country.

Snubbies and handgun accessories prove popular
    Gun Digest
Snubbies and handgun accessories are hot commodities in gun shops around the country. This recent winter, Roger Howe, owner of L&R Arms Exchange, has been selling a large number of handguns for concealed carry customers. But whereas the in-demand handguns in 2014 were .380 semi-autos, now his customers are much more interested in buying "snubbies," or snub-nosed revolvers. Leading the pack here are Taurus Model 85's in .38 Special and various Rossi revolvers in .38 Special, as well as .357 Mag.
