28 percent of Americans have no emergency savings

Most Americans don't have nearly enough money stashed away for emergencies and more than 1-in-4 don't even have a single penny saved. While the general rule of thumb is to have an emergency fund that will cover at least six months of expenses, only 25 percent of Americans have that amount saved, research released by Bankrate.com finds. 1 arrested selling gold coins from Texas burglary

Jackson, Fla., police have arrested two people in connection with a Texas house burglary, where thousands of dollars worth of gold was stolen. The arrest happened at DJ's Silver Mine, at 4631 I-55 North. Police say the owners of the pawnshop cooperated with police on a sting to help catch those responsible for the burglaries. With the help of business owners, JPD detectives set up the sting and made the arrest. More

UK pawnbroker overcomes gold pressure

The U.K.'s biggest pawnbroker has said competition had squeezed its gold purchasing arm but this had been offset by demand for higher loans in its core business. H&T Group, which has 174 stores and 55 "GoldBar" units, said its pawnbroking operations were expected to report double-digit year-on-year growth in the six months to June 30, boosted by an increased size of the average loan and a bigger pledge book. The most-actively traded silver contract, for July delivery, fell 17.8 cents, or 0.7 percent, to settle at $26.661 per troy ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. A new ordinance making pawnbrokers record data online to thwart fencing of goods was approved recently at the Rolling Meadows City Council in Illinois. Aldermen agreed with an ordinance that would compel pawnshops and online dealers of metals and stones to use "LeadsOnline," an Internet site that records all items purchased by the store for tracking by law enforcement.
