Jamie "Snooky" Sacco took on his nickname and the name for his business long before reality television. And now, Sacco's nickname and his business are part of a television phenomenon that has viewers tuning in and customers coming into his downtown Charlottesville, Va., pawnshop, Snooky's. "Reality television has definitely helped my business and, I think, the pawnshop industry as a whole," Sacco said. "Pawn Stars" and "Hardcore Pawn" are reality television shows about pawnshops in Las Vegas and Detroit, respectively." More



Federal reserve approves 21-cent cap for debit swipe fees

The Federal Reserve Board set a 21-cent cap on debit-card transaction fees, a less-severe limit on banks and payment networks than it previously proposed. Financial stocks surged. The rule approved 4-1 by the Fed governors today almost doubles the 12-cent ceiling that the central bank first suggested in December. The no vote was cast by Elizabeth Duke, who said the measure was likely to harm small banks and raise the costs for checking account holders. More

Spring Lake Park City Council members in Minnesota have denied a code change request that would have allowed a new pawnshop to open up near a residential area. City Administrator Barbara Nelson briefly summarized the request during the council’s June 20 meeting. Nelson said the initial request came in early June. More
