Jones Lifetime Achievement Award. Modell has been a leader in the pawn industry for over 30 years. The Charles R. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals who, through their outstanding leadership and efforts, have gone above and beyond to make a significant and lasting impact on the pawn industry over the course of their pawnbroking career. Honorees are regarded by their peers as leaders in the industry and recognized as such, nationally.

Man steals $4,000 in fishing gear, nets $180 at pawnshop, cops say

A man stole $4,000 worth of fishing equipment from his neighbor, but only reeled in $180 at the pawnshop, police said. Boca Raton police in Florida arrested 50-year-old Charles Pickett.

Feds: Gun used to kill Nebraska cop traced to Georgia pawnshop

Federal investigators say the handgun used to kill a police officer in Omaha, Nebraska was traced back to a Georgia pawnshop. "Preliminary autopsy results show Officer Orozco died from a gunshot wound to the upper chest just above the ballistic vest line," said a somber Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer shortly after the shooting.

Limitations placed on future pawnshops in Henry County, Georgia

Henry County Commissioners in Georgia approved an ordinance amendment limiting the number of pawnshops in an area. Existing pawnshops are grandfathered in and not affected. However, the location of future pawnshops are limited to one per 21,182 residents. Future shops are also limited to within 1,000 feet of a similar use.

Investors seek refuge in gold after price drop to nearly 4-month low

Gold futures settled higher, scoring a partial rebound after a drop to a nearly four-month low a day earlier as investors sought refuge in the metal. Investment interest in gold got a boost as the U.S. dollar weakened, a combination of unrelated events prompted a selloff in the main U.S. stock indexes and uncertainty continued to surround Greece, Iran and China.

Gun sales spike in June
CNNMoney
Background checks for gun sales spiked 11 percent in June compared to last year, making it the busiest June ever, according to the FBI's background check data. Last month the FBI conducted nearly 1.53 million background checks, which are required for all in-store purchases, but not for sales at gun shows or between individuals. That's the highest volume of checks in June since 1999, when the FBI started keeping track.
