Gold and DNA could create new dark matter detector
Wired Science    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A combined team of physicists and biologists aim to build a directional dark matter detector using strands of DNA and gold. Dark matter is a hypothesized type of matter which accounts for much of the mass of the universe. It cannot be seen, but its existence is inferred from its gravitational influence on visible matter and the structure of the universe. Some of the most popular models of dark matter suggest that it exerts itself on galaxy clusters and surrounds the Earth like a sea as it travels around the Sun, which in turn is slowly traveling towards the constellation Cygnus as it rotates around the galactic center. 'The Liquidator' on wheeling, dealing and why he thinks the 'Pawn Stars' are acting
The Huffington Post    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Like haggling? Then you'd be wise to tune into OLN's latest reality show, "The Liquidator," starring master-haggler Jeff Schwarz. The owner of Vancouve, Canada's largest liquidation store is Canada's newest — and perhaps least likely — reality star. Just 10 years ago it would be unheard of for a TV show to be crafted around the wheeling and dealing going on at a cavernous overstock shop. But, of course, that was long before shows like "Pawn Stars," "Storage Wars" and "American Pickers" started dominating the airwaves. Schwarz wears many hats, which sets his show apart from the others. More

A balancing act in precious metals
Resource Investor    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The new trading week got off to a relatively muted but also somewhat weak start in the precious metals' complex. While the US dollar did give up one-tenth of a percent on the trade-weighted index, it still remained near 83.26 on the same and with only a less than 20-cent advance in crude oil and with the euro threatening to break the $1.23 mark against the dollar, the metals' advances at opening time were small, to say the least.
