Father-son team runs County Line Pawn Shop in Marietta, Ga.

Standing on a golf course at Canterbury Golf Club in Marietta, Ga., Jim Anderson, 74, purchased a small business that evolved into one of Georgia's oldest and largest pawnshops. Anderson, a Marietta native who was a real estate agent prior to owning the pawnshop, bought County Line Pawn Shop from a friend and former business partner in 1986. "It was started by a friend of mine who brought me in a few months later so he could have some time off," Anderson said. "I had never been in a pawnshop in my life." Cash America, one of the world's largest pawnshop enterprises, said it didn't make as much profit as it thought it would in the second quarter, via release. Business was less profitable, the company said in a statement, because Americans are pawning less frequently.

Pawnshops 'zoned out'of Windsor Heights, Iowa

The Windsor Heights City Council in Iowa has effectively banned pawnshops from the city with a new ordinance that took effect this month. The ordinance requires a pawnshop to be at least 1,000 feet from many other types properties, and allows pawn shops only in a small area of the city that's zoned general commercial.

Privacy in pawnshops? Ordinance would require Cobb County, Ga., shops to participate in online database

Cobb County residents in Georgia looking to pawn their belongings for quick cash soon could find themselves in front of a camera under a proposed county ordinance. The Cobb Board of Commissioners is considering an ordinance that would require pawnshops and precious metal dealers in unincorporated Cobb to participate in an online digital database. The system would allow police to access information and photos of pawn store inventory and customers. That would require photos to be taken not only of items being pawned, but also of the customers pawning them.

Laredo, Texas, officer accused of stealing, pawning police firearms

A Laredo, Texas, officer has been accused of stealing and pawning 20 police firearms. The Laredo Morning Times reports that 46-year-old Miguel Angel Rodriguez, arrested on July 11, was also accused of selling a privately owned weapon that had been lent to him for maintenance.
