Unemployment rates rise in 90 percent of US cities

Unemployment rates rose in nearly all large U.S. cities in June as college graduates and many of those still in school began searching for jobs. The Labor Department said that unemployment rates rose in 347 large metro areas in June compared with the previous month. They fell in 12 and were unchanged in 13. In May, rates fell in 109 cities and rose in 243.

EcoATMs are placed at malls around central Ohio to provide a way for customers to trade their old phones in for money. A user can just drop their phone in a bin, and the machine scans it for market value. Customers can get up to $300 cash on the spot. But some criminals see the machines as a way to turn stolen merchandise into money.

Court documents indicate that pawnshop records helped investigators identify the man charged with killing and robbing a Northeastern State University professor. Joshua Schneider is charged with murdering Tiffany Maher and attempting to burn her body and her home. He's also accused of stealing several items from her home, including her laptop, TV and an e-reader.

Suspects land in jail after trip to the pawnshop

It appears a trip to a Loiusville, Ky., pawnshop blew the cover of a theft from a downtown construction site. Police arrested two men, accused of taking $2,000 for a pair of items from inside a fence and then walking them to a nearby pawnshop to sell them.
