New pawnshop mounts anti-theft effort

You'll find a wide variety of treasures at Pioneer Pawn Shop in Morrisville, Vermont, from a Barbara Streisand album to a pink electric guitar to an antique dry goods scale. But you won't find any stolen items. Owner Doug West wants to make sure that none of the items he sells were stolen and then pawned to buy drugs. He takes photos of all customers with the items they want to pawn. He also photographs their driver's licenses and requires them to fill out sales slips with their addresses and cellphone numbers.

Deputies: Pawnshop owner head of theft ring

The owner of a St. Johns County, Florida, pawnshop is now behind bars, weeks after his shop was raided by deputies, who seized thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise. The EZ Money Pawn Shop was shut down and raided July 14 as part of an investigation into whether or not the pawnshop was dealing in stolen goods, police said.

Stolen Barbie dolls cashed in at pawnshops lead to a manhunt

Thirty-eight collector edition Barbie dolls were among several items taken from a Charlestown, Indiana, woman's home. "I've never seen, I mean, this is actually a first case where we've had Barbies stolen. But we have had collector items that are a little bit unusual stolen and pawned in," said Scottie Maples, Public Information Officer for the Clark County Sheriff's Department.

    Police link woman to 78 items in 28 pawnshop transactions

    A woman who confessed to stealing and pawning thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise from two department stores within the last several weeks, said she did it because she was homeless. Maria Annette Butler told a Star-Banner reporter after her first appearance before Judge Robert Landt that money she received from the pawns paid her motel room bill and food for herself and her three children: two girls and a boy, ages 13, 8 and 3.

    2 Palatka, Florida, men accused of pawning stolen fishing poles
    First Coast News
    Two Palatka, Florida, men were arrested after pawning three fishing poles stolen from Walmart, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. Terry Richard Brown, 26, and Frankie Leon Sweat, 26, have both been charged with larceny and dealing in stolen property. Sweat was also charged with fraud for giving false information to a pawnshop.
