Gun sales are up near Ferguson, Missouri

Metro Shooting Supplies is about 10 miles west of the spot in Ferguson, Missouri. where Michael Brown was shot to death by Officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9. And since then, sales have been booming. "Historically in August, it's very slow," owner Steve King told The Washington Post by phone, "because people are getting ready to go back to school." Not this August.

Uncle sues nephew who opened rival pawnshop with 'stolen' goods

A Brooklyn, New York, pawn-store owner is suing his nephew for allegedly swiping his ­inventory and using the secondhand goods to open a competing shop on the same block. Joseph Someck, who owned Midas Touch Jewelry Plus, is suing nephew Houman Joseph "with a heavy heart," according to the suit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.

Gold near 2-month low on stronger dollar, interest rate expectations

Gold held close to its lowest in two months, as the dollar marched higher after central bank heads signaled that interest rates were set on a diverging course in the United States, Europe and Japan. At a gathering of central bankers in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen nodded to the concerns of some Fed officials about the sustained level of monetary policy stimulus, even as she stressed the need to move cautiously on raising rates.

Police seeking Torranc California, pawnshop robber
KNBC-TV
Police asked for the public's help to find a man who stole $27,000 worth of jewelry from a Torrance, California, pawnshop. The robbery happened Aug. 15 at 10:30 a.m., the Torrance Police Department said in a news release.
