Columbia County, Georgia, sheriff will request revision to pawnshop law
The Augusta Chronicle
Columbia County Sheriff Clay Whittle in Georgia said he will ask county commissioners to rescind and revise an ordinance meant to stem sales of stolen goods, which has been criticized as too broad and burdensome for businesses that sell used merchandise. The Columbia County Commission passed Ordinance 15-22 on April 21, which required certain businesses, such as pawnshops and jewelers, to collect information on each transaction when buying used goods from the public.

TV gunman sent 9-page letter to pawnshop for not saying 'thank you'

The gunman who shot dead a reporter and a cameraman sent a scathing letter to a pawnshop for allegedly not saying thank you, it has emerged. Vester Flanagan went to a store in Roanoke, Virginia, to buy a flat-screen television in November 2014 – and was apparently unhappy about how he was treated.

Victims told to pay pawnshops to reclaim stolen items

Richard Lerch thought he heard a noise at his front door but ignored it once the noise stopped. A noise came again, but this time around back with the sound of someone opening his screen door. Lerch, 73, got up, opened the back door and was met by a man he had never seen before, wearing a large coat, possibly gloves, and carrying a large duffel bag. It was the middle of August.

    Cash America International receives consensus recommendation of 'hold' from analysts

    Shares of Cash America International have earned a consensus recommendation of "hold" from the eight analysts that are presently covering the company, Market Beat Ratings reports. One analyst has rated the stock with a sell rating, three have assigned a hold rating and four have issued a buy rating on the company. The average 12-month target price among brokers that have covered the stock in the last year is $28.40.

    Gold falls, awaiting fresh clues on US rate rise

    Gold fell extending last week's slide as indications the Federal Reserve may still raise interest rates this year, despite recent market turmoil, offset a retreat in the dollar. Spot gold fell 0.4 percent to $1,129.01 an ounce by 1348 GMT, while U.S. gold futures for December delivery dropped $5.50 an ounce to $1,128.50. Gold fell 2.3 percent last week after a slide in Chinese equities rattled wider markets.

    Austin, Texas, city employee accused of stealing, pawning almost $180, 000 in equipment

    A former city of Austin, Texas, employee was charged after nearly $180,000 in equipment from the Austin Convention Center and the Palmer Events Center went missing. Gilberto Valenzuela, 52, an information technology support analyst with the city, was charged with theft by public servant and was booked into the Travis County Jail.

    2 arrested at pawnshop hours after armed robbery

    7th person in custody in 'pillowcase bandit' ring

    A seventh mebber has been arrested in connection with the "pillowcase Bandits' — a burglary ring that hit Carson City, Nevada, Douglas and Washoe counties in the last year. The Carson City Sheriff's Office arrested Bob Stover, after serving a search warrant on his residence and reportedly finding hundreds of pieces of stolen property related to the burglaries.
