South Carolina pawnshop offers variety of services

The Whiskey Trader has been open since March, but owner Morgan Milner explained that with a business like a pawnshop, it takes a few months to get going because the nature of the business relies heavily on the public. The shop is located in Aiken, South Carolina, which Milner believes is a great spot to promote a business that the Aiken area needs.

Great Falls City Commission in Montana to vote on changes to pawnshop ordinance

In March the Great Falls City Commission in Montana adopted an ordinance that required pawnshops and secondhand stores to register all of their items in a secure database program provided by the Great Falls Police Department.

Pawnshop clues lead to arrests in jewelry thefts

A thumb print at a pawnshop led detectives to a burglary suspect accused of taking $15,000 worth of jewelry from a home in March, police said. Robert Giampaolo, 29, of Kent, New York, was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, in the March 16 theft, Police Chief Alex DiVernieri Jr. said.

Police have arrested and charged three men in connection with the bloody robbery of a Roseville, Minneapolis, pawnshop that netted the perpetrators roughly $200,000 in jewels.

US jewelry and watch sales +4 percent to $6 billion in July

U.S. jewelry and watch sales rose 4.3 percent year on year in July, according to preliminary government calculations and the increase represented the strongest monthly gain so far this year. Earlier this month, and beginning with June's provisional sales data, the government revised sector growth lower for each of the previous five months.

Swamp Pawn's Coy Gomez dies in Louisiana

Coy Gomez, who gained national attention as a cast member of CMT's Swamp Pawn reality series, died Aug. 18 following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 68. A native of Donaldsonville, Louisiana, George Coy Gomez loved the swamps of Louisiana as a hunter and fisherman since he was a young child.

People aren't buying guns

Coming off a year of record sales, the gun market is cooling off. And overeager gunmakers are still struggling to dial down their expectations. In the recent quarter, Smith & Wesson sales dropped 23 percent, to $131.9 million, and profit plunged 45 percent, to $14.6 million, according to a report late yesterday. Long guns and "modern sporting rifles," in particular, lost favor among shooters, but handguns cooled off as well.
