Precious Metals Prices are going to get more volatile starting Oct. 1. The CME Group, which owns the COMEX, NYMEX, GLOBEX, and other commodity exchanges, has announced new margin rules on leveraged accounts to take effect that date in order to comply with the Dodd-Frank law. Leveraged investments are those where the investor borrows funds, usually from the broker, in order to purchase or sell short a larger quantity of an asset than would be possible with just the funds the investor had available.

Connecticut court: Law limits pawnshops' interest rates

The Connecticut Supreme Court has ruled that state law limits how much interest pawn shops can charge consumers who agree to buy back items they sold to the shops in exchange for loans. The court ruled that the law caps interest on "repurchase agreements" at 12 percent a year.

Cops: Moving company worker pawned customers' jewelry
Newsday
A routine check of pawnshop transactions turned into the arrest of an Elmont, New York, man on larceny charges after detectives learned he made multiple sales to two pawnbrokers in Nassau County, police said. The pawned items were then traced to jewelry stolen during moves by the victims using a moving company where the suspect worked, police said.

Suspect arrested after going through roof of pawnshop

One suspect is in custody after police say he broke into a Missouri pawnshop and was caught trying to steal merchandise. It happened at the Pawn King. Police say the suspect moved an air conditioning unit on the roof to get into the store. Then he started putting power tools and a tablet in an area between the ceiling and roof.

2 charged in Roseville, Minnesota, pawnshop armed robbery

Two St. Paul men were charged in the armed robbery of a pawnshop in Roseville, Minnesota, on July 21. According to the criminal complaint, Derrick Lynch, 51, and Marvin Spenver, 51, used a semi-automatic handgun to rob Pawn America of approximately $200,000 worth of jewelry.
