Houston pawnshop owner celebrate big milestones

A longtime business owner in Houston's Third Ward is celebrating a couple of impressive milestones. Bernard Wolf's business Wolf's Pawn turned 60 years old, and the business owner himself is celebrating his 90th birthday. In that time, both business and owner have witnessed a lot of changes.

GIA to start making lab-grown diamonds

The GIA will begin producing synthetic diamonds next year in order to gain a greater understanding of the properties of such stones and improve identification capabilities. Gemological Institute of America (GIA) executive vice president and chief laboratory and research officer Tom Moses announced the development during International Diamond Week.

Former pawnshop employee faces 16 felony charges

A former Lafayette, Indiana, pawnshop employee faces 16 felony charges after prosecutors say she stole more than $56,000 of jewelry from her employer so it could be pawned elsewhere. According to court documents, 32-year-old Brooke Egelhoff took the items from RamZ’s Emporium over a four-year period before she was discovered last fall.

    Chicago suburb to discuss cash-for-gold shop ban

    A group of citizens is seeking to ban cash-for-gold and cash-for-gift-card shops along Oak Park, Illinois' borders, calling the shops a "negative use" that discourages others from opening businesses nearby.

    Renewed calls for gun control laws spur sales

    Renewed calls for more restrictive gun laws, following a succession of fatal shootings in the United States, immediately appear to be generating a boost for the gun industry. Newly released August records show that the FBI posted 1.7 million background checks required of gun purchasers at federally licensed dealers, the highest number recorded in any August since gun checks began in 1998.

    Man arrested in string of pawnshop thefts

    A man who was wanted in connection to a string of pawnshop thefts in San Antonio has been arrested. San Antonio police arrested Michael Norman Deshon. Police said about a month ago that they noticed an increase in crimes targeting pawnshops.
