Sixth Circuit oral argument: Is Ohio's 'Precious Metals Dealer Act' constitutional?

The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments on the constitutionality of the Ohio Precious Metal Dealer Act, which imposes strict limits on precious metals purchasers and businesses in Ohio. Through vigorous enforcement of the Act, the Ohio Department of Commerce had threatened to shut down many Ohio small businesses. However, the act was enjoined in its entirety by a federal court in December of 2012.

Kidnap-murder suspect captured in Alabama trying to pawn guns

Even with two men suspected of kidnapping and killing a young DeKalb County, Georgia, couple in custody, police are still looking for people who might have helped them. The marshal’s service and the Birmingham police arrested Richard Augusta “Fathead” Wilson, 41, at Quick Pawn shop trying to pawn a rifle and two other guns.

Jeweler charges for pawning diamonds falsely reported stolen

Federal prosecutors charged a Vestavia Hills, Alabama, man with money laundering for pawning a 3-carat diamond in 2013 that was among a cache of jewels he collected $2.6 million in insurance money on in 2004 after reporting them stolen in a Mountain Brook Jewelry store robbery.

Father-son burglary suspects tracked from Vegas pawnshop to Washington state

Police are concerned a pair of criminals from Virginia may be looking for new targets in Washington state. They say the father-son team pose as contractors to steal jewelry and precious metals from unsuspecting homeowners. They were last seen trying to pawn some of those stolen goods in Puyallup, but that isn't the only store they've targeted.
