Owners of the Tiger Pawn II in Boonville, Mo., now say the shop will remain open for business following the deadly assault that took place in the shop on Nov. 17. Dan Trimm, the store's owner, had said just a few weeks ago that the store would close and move all operations to their other location. David Rueda got into the pawn business about four years ago. Rueda has owned Blackwell Jewelers in Dover, N.J., since 2001, but he noticed in 2008 that more and more people were coming into the store looking to pawn or sell jewelry. "People needed money for their mortgages, for rent, a lot of people were unemployed," Rueda said. "Its been steady since then." More

The rocky economy of the past couple of years, plus the Christmas holiday, has had an interesting effect on some Middle Georgia pawnshops. More people are bringing things to pawnshops in order to get short-term loans because of the economy, said Chuck Williams III, owner of Chuck's Gun & Pawn Shop in Warner Robins.
