Down in the basement, dead pigeons lay on their backs, wings splayed, their bodies sliced open at the breastbone. White powder, an abrasive, was sprinkled liberally over the carcasses. Then a hand carefully reached in behind each of the birds' knees and tugged, patiently pulling the torsos free from the wings.

South Dakota: Mountain goat hunting season to be reinstated

For the first time in nearly a decade, a couple of lucky South Dakota sportsmen will have the chance to go hunting for mountain goats. The mountain goat hunting season will reopen for the first time in 2015 after being closed for the past nine years.

Bird flu worries: DNR issues to-do list for turkey hunters

With tens of thousands hunters gearing up for the spring turkey hunting season in Minnesota, state conservation officials are detailing the best ways to keep the wild flock from falling victim to the bird flu that is killing turkeys by the hundreds of thousands in commercial operations. "Turkey hunters can take steps to minimize the risk of spreading highly pathogenic bird flu," said Michelle Carstensen, wildlife health program supervisor with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
