Graduation gift: Bagging big game
Winfield Daily Courier
Abby Hoffman, who graduated from Udall High School recently in Kansas, got a most unusual graduation present. Her father, Randy, had told her midway through her freshman year that if she could carry a 4.0 grade point average, he would take her on a safari in South Africa. What an incentive. The poll showed three main uses: crime protection (67 percent), target shooting (66 percent) and hunting (58 percent). No matter the use, it is important to have optimum visual function in order to achieve maximum safety and the greatest success whether the use is recreational, protection or vocational.

When 'zero-tolerance' makes 'zero-sense'
NRA-ILA
We've been reporting very regularly on ridiculous cases involving over-zealous school officials misinterpreting and wrongly enforcing "zero-tolerance" rules. In March, we reported on an outrageous case of a seven-year-old Baltimore, Md., student who, according to a March 2, Daily Caller article, was suspended for two days for the nefarious act of shaping a breakfast pastry into what his teacher thought looked like a gun. Yes, a breakfast pastry.

Passion, instinct, tradition guide local longbow maker
The Daily Independent
You have to rely on instinct to be any good at shooting a long bow, and that's just one of the things bowyer Randy Ackerson appreciates about the traditional tool and weapon. Ackerson, 51, has been building bows since before he moved to Ashland, Ky., about 15 years ago, although his obsession with archery began as a young man.
