US Bureau of Land Management to fertilize Wyo. gas drilling area to help deer

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is moving ahead with plans to add fertilizer to the sagebrush country in and near a gas field in western Wyoming. The goal is to improve the growth of natural forage for mule deer. A study released last year showed mule deer numbers were down as much as 60 percent from several years earlier. More

Request to halt Montana and Idaho wolf hunts denied

A federal appeals court recently denied a request by environmental groups to halt wolf hunts that are scheduled to begin soon in Idaho and Montana. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied the request by the Alliance for the Wild Rockies and other groups. The groups were seeking to cancel the hunts while the court considers a challenge to congressional action in April that stripped wolves of federal protections in Montana and Idaho, and in parts of Washington, Oregon and Utah. Commission approves rules for aerial hog hunts

Qualified hunters will be able to take to the skies to take aim at Texas' burgeoning feral hog population. The Wichita Falls Times Record News reported that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission has approved rules for hunting the hogs and coyotes by helicopter, in accordance with House Bill 716 passed by the Legislature.
