  • Heating oil companies benefit from falling temps, prices
    The Record Journal
With the cost of oil under $50 a barrel, local heating oil companies say business is good, while fewer people are converting to natural gas. Chris Herb, president of the Connecticut Energy Marketers Association, said the statewide average is $2.59 per gallon, down $1.12 from last year. Herb said low prices have been a boost for heating oil businesses across the board.

HVAC contractor's guide to estimating software
    Contracting Business
The need for sales force automation is a top concern for small- to mid-sized businesses. In a study by Software Advice of 385 participants, over 78 percent of which happened to be small companies of 20 employees or less, 67 percent were still using "nonspecialized methods" of managing contacts and tracking leads. Too many small- to mid-sized construction companies — HVAC contractors, specifically — are facing the challenge of implementing streamlined, sales-friendly software to aid customer relationships.

    UPDATES FROM OESP

    Recognizing the New Haven Chapter
    OESP
OESP has awarded over $250,000 in scholarships since 1999. For an Association of our size, that is quite an accomplishment and we couldn’t do it alone. We’ve had partners over the years that have matched awards so that we could support students pursuing their careers in the HVAC field. To read more about our 2014 winners visit our website.

Our main fundraiser is our annual golf tournament, and George Fantacone, R.I. Chapter does a fine job organizing that.

We also appreciate chapter support. Some of our chapters match an award and others send checks periodically. For example, the New Haven Chapter recently sent a check designated for our scholarship fund. They host a 50/50 and instead of keeping the profit, they sent it to us.

If you run a contracting business that repairs and installs HVAC systems, which customers need in order to stay warm inside their homes during these freezing cold stretches, staying inside during the coldest days is simply not an option. However, contractors are human, too. They get cold and when the weather drops below freezing and face the same risks as anyone else. How can you ensure your employees stay safe when working outside during the coldest days of the year?

Order allows heating oil trucks to stay on roads longer
    Portland Press Herald
Maine Gov. Paul LePage has signed an emergency proclamation that will allow heating oil delivery trucks to stay on the road longer. The proclamation is aimed at ensuring that Mainers can get heating oil delivered to their homes and stay warm while the temperatures plunge. It waives several federal requirements, such as the rule limiting drivers to 11 hours behind the wheel.

Study evaluates New England investment in clean energy
    FierceEnergy
Prioritizing energy efficiency, renewable energy and imports of Canadian hydroelectricity would reduce Massachusetts's exposure to wintertime price spikes that result from the state's growing dependence on natural gas for heating and electricity generation. That is according to a new analysis conducted by Synapse Energy for Acadia Center, a non-profit, research and advocacy organization with a self-described commitment to advancing the clean energy future.
