An additional $18 million in federal aid is available for heating oil assistance in Massachusetts. The money, to be used to help lower-income residents, was part of the nearly $454 million released Jan. 30 to all states under the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

Driving waiver for those hauling heating oil, propane extended

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has extended the temporary waiver on certain restrictions on commercial drivers to allow for continued smooth delivery of heating oil and propane gas to homes and businesses for heating purposes. The waiver, issued Jan. 10, extends the limits on hours of service for fuel delivery drivers extending driving hours to 14.

The Roadshows are open

It isn't too early to register for our first Roadshow, to May 12-13, at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn. Early Bird pricing is good until April 1. As a bonus, all registrations received by that date will be in the running for free two-night complimentary suite at Mohegan Sun. We will be doing the same thing in Gettysburg, Pa.

The Attendee side includes a complete list of participating exhibiting partners.

We have some great classes scheduled. There are a host of management and owners sessions, as well as technical. You will find the list on the Attendee side.

All members who registered and paid for classes held in Hershey, Pa., last year will be receiving a coupon to use in 2014 for either the Roadshows or any classes we sponsor this year on the road. That schedule will be published within the next 2-3 weeks.

Upcoming Board of Director's Meeting

Our Spring Board of Director's meeting will be held Saturday, March 29, at the Historic Bethlehem Hotel, in Bethlehem, Pa. Those that wish to register can do so online.

Our second board meeting, generally held at our convention, will be held on Monday, May 12, at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn. More on that to follow.

US heating oil futures hit session high on large distillate draw
Reuters
U.S. ultra low-sulfur diesel futures, more commonly known as heating oil, rose to a session high after U.S. government data showed a larger-than-expected draw in distillate stocks. Distillate stocks fell by 3.21 million barrels last week, compared with expectations of a 900,000-barrel draw in a Reuters poll.

Police say they will be stepping up patrols after a recent rash of robberies targeting New York oil deliverymen on Long Island. According to police, there have been four robberies of home heating oil trucks in Nassau County in the last five weeks.
