ASHRAE proposes to move all residential IAQ requirements to Standard 62.2
HVAC Web Connection
Dwelling units of multifamily buildings of any height would fall under ASHRAE’s residential ventilation standard, 62.2, under a proposed change designed to provide consistency of ventilation requirements. Currently, ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2013, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality, has responsibility for multifamily residential buildings four stories or more, while ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.2-2013, Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality in Low-Rise Residential Buildings, has responsibility for residential buildings three stories and less.

Training fuel distributors on increased biodiesel blends
Biodiesel Magazine
Recent balloting efforts to change ASTM D396 to include higher blends of biodiesel, from B6 to B20, are creating the need for further education regarding proper handling and use of blends above 5 percent. Findings from Brookhaven National Laboratory show B20 and lower blends are acceptable for use in existing burners and boilers. To provide much-needed education for some, and a refresher course for others, a comprehensive webinar, "Getting the Most from Your National Supply Chain from Production to Consumption," has been developed.

Tonight we will be hosting the seminar, Classic Hydronics, with Dan Holohan. Dan is doing this on behalf of our scholarship fund. The Association truly appreciates all that he has done to support our scholarship program.

When past president Bob Boltz, Dan and others learned of the passing of Dave Nelsen, they decided to start the scholarship fund. Dan made a personal commitment to raise $100,000 so that the scholarship would be well-funded for the future. As we all know, interest rates haven’t been kind, thus we needed to add some capital to the account. Dan again stepped up to the plate.

Since 1999, our association, along with our partners, has awarded over $250,000 in awards to students who are furthering their education in the HVAC industry. Our 2014 winners will be announced shortly. Stay tuned for that announcement.

Recruiting in the trade industries
Contractor Magazine
For the last three years, according to ManpowerGroup, the hardest segment of the workforce for employers to staff with skilled talent hasn't been registered nurses or engineers or even Web developers. It's been the skilled trades — the welders, electricians, machinists, etc., that are so prevalent in manufacturing and construction. Here are five things facing us as we move forward in identifying the skills gap problem as we know it.

Field crews need mobile information
Contractor Magazine
Your employees are connected to the Internet most of the time, so why should they not be when they're at work? If you give your employees mobile devices, they will use them a lot, even working during off hours. And you need to control both the device and the data that it contains.
