As imports wane, US has room to cut strategic oil reserve

After the Arab oil embargo of 1973, the major industrialized nations agreed to build emergency stockpiles to guard against supply shocks and prolonged price spikes. The U.S. and other major oil consumers pledged through the International Energy Agency to hold oil reserves in government or commercial hands equal to at least 90 days "cover" of net oil imports. From the start, the U.S. has exceeded the requirement.

Danfoss, Baltimore, Md., recently issued a press release in support of The Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act of 2013, S.761. The bill was recently reintroduced by Senators Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and Rob Portman, R-Ohio. The Shaheen-Portman legislation would increase the use of energy-efficiency technologies in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.

US oil supplies reach 82-year high

The U.S. is awash in a glut of crude oil, with inventories at their highest level since the government began keeping monthly data in 1931, according to a report released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). While inventories of oil and distillates (diesel fuel and heating oil) rose, the supply of gasoline actually fell. The total U.S. commercial inventory of crude oil stands at 395.3 million barrels.

Energy audit reveals millions in potential savings
Middletown Journal
Middletown, Ohio, could save more than $204,000 a year by making energy-efficient upgrades and repairs to nine city-owned buildings, according to the city's first energy audit in 17 years. The Perfection Group, a Cincinnati-based consultant on energy efficiency, evaluated nine city-owned buildings from Feb. 11 to March 15 and found that with certain upgrades and preventive maintenance, Middletown could save hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
