ISH 2013 with a side trip to France
OESP    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Pricing should be available later this week for our annual trip to ISH. As we shared earlier, this year we'll offer a side trip at the front end of the trip. Those selecting the full trip will fly into Paris and be escorted to Normandy for a full tour and back to Paris for a tour of the sites and an overnight prior to departing by train for Frankfurt.

For the first time, we are offering just the ISH Package as well. The tentative dates are March 7-16; ISH dates are March 12-16. Those folks will fly in and join us at the hotel that Monday or Tuesday and have plenty of time to see the show. If you have an interest in just this, email Judy Garber as soon as possible. We will only purchase air tickets for the exact number needed and we can't block tickets. For those of you who have had an interest in just the show and have never seen it, here is your chance. We even promise you curbside service — a couple of us will meet you at the airport upon your arrival.

Fall is just around the corner
OESP    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
School begins and so do OESP chapter meetings. To keep you posted as to what is happening, view our online calendar. All you have to do is change the month to September to view the activities.

So what is your chapter planning this fall? As you can see on the calendar, the Delaware Valley Chapter is beginning their round of Technical classes at the Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Pa.

The Southeast Pa. Chapter is planning something new this fall. The chapter will be hosting their Oct. 24 event at the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster, Pa. A special guest speaker, Craig Butler, of R.W. Beckett Company, will answer any of your questions pertaining to controls or burners. But his topic will be geared towards technicians and how they can better handle tough situations with regards to the customer. Having walked in their shoes, Craig will bring a fresh view of ways to listen and talk to customers. Consumers can be challenging and at times frustrate technicians, but there are techniques that can be applied that will help anyone diffuse a "hot" situation.

This event will include a host of industry partners that will be showing some of the latest energy equipment and be on hand to talk with you. The cost to attend is $15 per person and the event includes food. Join the chapter at 5 p.m. and bring your techs or fellow industry associates. Click here to register.

The chapter is selling tables at $75 each, which includes dinner. Here is a great opportunity to spend time with those that install and service your products.

It's not too late to register for the first of class of our new Home Comfort Specialist Academy
OESP    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
How many times have you arrived on the job to install the new boiler or furnace and the person who sold the job didn't do a load calculation, didn't suggest changes with ductwork or simply didn't identify the oil tank needed to be replaced before a new air conditioning system needed to be installed?

How many sales people don't have the experience or knowledge to be selling Indoor Comfort and sell based only on price? It then becomes your job to make it right and margins erode.

That is what this program is all about: helping build a stronger industry from the ground up. Our customers expect exactly that. Yes, customers may suggest they can get a cheaper price but will it do the same job? Only if you are armed with the information, knowledge and confidence will you be able to be a top flight energy sales professional.

The first module, "Selling a Warm Air Furnace with Air Conditioning," will be taught by Ralph Adams in conjunction with our Oil Heat Retreat, noon–6 p.m., Sept. 27, at the Radisson in Scranton, Pa. It's free — you just need to register.

Other proposed topics include: Oil and Other Fuels; Comparing the Total Cost of Operating the Appliance; Efficiencies (AFUE); Selling High Efficient Equipment; Heat Gain and Heat Loss; Domestic Hot Water; Prospecting, Marketing, Referrals, Leads and Proposals; Basic Understanding of a System (Hydronic, Steam and Warm Air); Customer Relations and the Importance of a Trade Organization.

The HVAC factor: Energy recovery ventilation
Today's Facility Manager    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Studies have proven that outdoor air ventilation creates a healthful work environment. However, as these intake rates increase, so does the size, cost, and operating expense of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. Facility managers are therefore caught between two powerful forces—the need to lower energy costs and the need to meet or exceed outdoor air ventilation regulations for occupant health and comfort. Energy retrofit program goes residential
Chicago Tribune    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Programmable thermostats, high-efficiency light bulbs and low-flow shower heads won't lower the average age of residential buildings in Chicago below the current 83 years, but technology can get those buildings behaving more like newcomers on the block. That's why the city of Chicago, utility companies and nonprofit community groups are teaming up to launch the residential portion of the city's Retrofit Chicago program, and it will distribute free items like thermostats and shower heads. It also will include discounted energy audits and rebates for projects that single-family homeowners and apartment building owners can undertake to improve the energy efficiency of their living spaces. Fort Worth Star-Telegram    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
After nearly a decade of warnings that the world's oil supply was running out, Americans now are hearing about technology breakthroughs that have unlocked vast U.S. deposits of natural gas, helped reverse a 40-year slide in domestic oil production and could perhaps transform America into the next Middle East. But despite the euphoria, there's a major problem: The looming American oil glut may not be enough to satisfy the United States and the rest of motorized humanity. More
