Ultra low sulfur heating oil production, stocks difficult to track
U.S. ultra low sulfur heating oil production and stock levels are nearly impossible to track, but weekly tracking may need to happen by 2016 due to federal regulations. Traders look at stocks and production numbers from the government for modeling purposes, which influences trading and the market. Without a specific breakdown on ULSD, one of the most heavily traded refined products in the U.S., it makes modeling difficult for traders.

Building Hope for others
Life has not been easy for Dylan Thompson and his mom Gloria. Thanks to Building Hope for Long Island, N.Y., Oil Heat Cares and the wonderful volunteers from the Long Island Oil Heating and Cooling Chapter, 19-year-old Dylan now has a comfortable, energy efficient handicap-accessible place to call home.

At age 5, Dylan was diagnosed with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy. The home he and his mom shared didn't work for Dylan's changing physical needs. On Aug. 17, things began to look up for the family with help from their new friends.

Building Hope for Long Island is a non-profit organization that OHC has partnered with previously. When Bob O'Brien, who spearheaded this project, asked for approval from the Oil Heat Cares Board, the process was swift. When Bob stated that the costs would be higher than the allotted $2,500, OHC and members of the chapter reached out to manufacturers for further help. Within a short period of time, they received donations from: QHT (Firebird boiler); Roth (oil tank); Venco Sales & Honeywell (thermostats); Marplat, (Elkhart Xpress fitting); R.W. Beckett, (Aqua Smart); Petro (plenty of "stuff") and photography compliments of Mike Dwyer.

None of these projects would be possible without our many volunteers. Yes, they are the good guys wearing the black shirts — with most displaying the Oil Heat Cares logo!

Mostra Convegno Expo and trip: March 14-22, 2014
What are your plans for next March? Several of us will be traveling to Italy for the Mostra Convegno Expo. But first, we'll stop in Rome for four nights and during our stay there, take a day trip down the Amalfi Coast and as we head to Milan where the show is, we'll stop at our next hotel — in the beautiful Lake Como area. Upon arrival, guests can freshen up and decide what's next. Visit the show, shop, tour — whatever. It's all up to you!

We increased our room block once and still have a couple of seats available. If you wish to get on the list, just email Judy Garber. As with all of our OESP sponsored trips, just about everything is included in the price, including air, rooms, some meals, breakfast daily, tickets, etc.

It's about learning
How many classes have you attended in your career? You probably don’t know, do you? How many times after a class did you go to the next step — the implementation of what you learned? Quite recently, a father and member of our association, Len Bruso, sent Judy Garber an email. His son, Roger, one of our 2014 scholarship winners left for college mid-August. He is attending, Williamsport College of Technology. Len, like many parents, expressed the fact he will miss his son. But he also felt something different than most parents, "I am losing a very good employee." He said that their last job together was an installation of an A/C unit with a zoning package. Len and Roger gained the confidence of adding the zoning package because of a recent class they attended at our convention. That class, Adding Zoning to Every HVAC Installation was presented by "Dick" Foster, President of Zonefirst.
