There are some nifty iPad and smartphone apps for sales presentations, quotes and billing, calculations and conversions on the go. For example, ComfortConsultant is an HVAC sales consultation app for the iPad that supports direct customer interactivity during the Residential Replacement sales presentation. The app, which comes in several manufacturer-specific versions, is preloaded with all the equipment from the manufacturer and also includes Honeywell and AprilAire IAQ and control equipment.

A flash from the past — Manson Whitlock

In the obituary section of the newspaper, this article was spotted: "Manson worked until the age of 96." His shop was located in Bethanny, Conn. Whitlock was a typewriter repairman. Talk about a dying trade.

The moral of the story — if you own a typewriter and it needs repair, you might want to make the switch to a computer before there are no more typewriter repair personnel.

Energy effciency program rebates $1.8 million to NE Ohio customers

A little-known energy-efficiency program that has paid more than $2.5 million in rebates since its inception in 2010 is available to all of Dominion East Ohio's customers. Dominion launched the Home Performance with Energy Star program in October 2010 and hired the Atlanta-based subcontractor GoodCents to manage and implement the program.
