Maine heating oil dealers: Pricing complicated
Morning Sentinel    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Heating oil prices are up this year, but oil use in Maine is going down. That contradiction — a price increase despite a sharp drop in demand and a relatively stable supply — suggests that trying to predict what Mainers will be paying for heating oil in a few weeks, let alone a few months, is foolhardy, said Jamie Py, president of the Maine Energy Marketers Association, which represents many Maine oil dealers. Eagle-Tribune    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
As winter draws near, fuel assistance officials urge those who need subsidized heating oil to apply now to avoid being left out in the cold. The warnings come as word from lawmakers in Washington is that New Hampshire will not receive any increased funding for fuel assistance this winter. But the good news is that the amount won't decrease, either. More

Last week, PA Petroleum Association hosted a joint event with ESPA in Hershey, Pa. There were plenty of education programs for owners and managers and even Gov. Tom Corbett was on hand to open the event. The governor was honored for his leadership in keeping the refineries open in Pennsylvania. With all the trucks on display, he saw for himself how important our industry is to the economy in the state of Pennsylvania.

The President's Reception and Banquet on the evening of Oct. 2 featured ESPN commentator and NFL legend Mike Ditka. His entertaining and inspiring presentation focused on "ACE" (Attitude, Character and Enthusiasm) — the key characteristics people need to achieve their personal and professional goals. Even executive director Judy Garber had a chance to pose with Coach Ditka.

Notice PPA and PPMCSA — it seems the organization has gone back to its original name of PA Petroleum Association.

With the name change, more opportunities present themselves — not just for the addition of new members but the opportunity to deliver more localized education on a mix of energy topics.

For example, in the Philadelphia suburbs, the Delaware Valley and Bucks-Mont Chapters have had a variety of topics for their regular Tech Nights. For example, in September they hosted a workshop on Honeywell gas controls and ignitors; in October they had Bruce Graham of Carlin do a class on gas conversion burners and Roger Prevost of Quality Equipment Sales did a class on general gas service.

They already have a March class scheduled with Bosch: On-Demand Condensing Water Heaters.

Consider looking outside the box — try a tech night or business meeting with a topic that relates to alternative service — and consider planning ahead!

Solar cell efficiency record set by EPFL researchers
Hydrogen Fuel News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Energy efficiency has long been a challenge keeping progress within the clean energy industry at bay. Though new technologies seem to emerge from the industry often, these technologies are typically surrounded with concerns regarding their efficiency. Solar cells, for example, hold vast potential in terms of power generation, but efficiency problems have kept their adoption considerably low. This may change, however, due to a new breakthrough from researchers from the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, who have been working on improving solar cell efficiency for years. More
