Once Porsche passion grabs hold, it doesn't let go
By Pablo Deferrari
My wife and I were leaving our local Home Depot one morning in the 911, and something magical happened. As I fired up the beastly flat-6, a man with two little boys in tow was walking behind us. Watching them in the rear-view mirror, I noticed one little boy had his neck craned 180 degrees as they walked away from us and closer to the store — he just wouldn't take his eyes off the car. I nudge my wife and said, "Honey, look, look, look! See that little guy? That's how it all starts."

Tech Tactics East 2014
PCA
The date has been set for the fourth annual Tech Tactics East at the Porsche Cars North America site outside of Easton, PA. Please mark your calendars for March 1-2, 2014. The format will be the same as in years past. Our very special guest this year from Porsche AG is Daniel Vasiliades, who is responsible for the marketing of the Macan. We will also feature Owen Hayes, Director of Operations Porsche Motorsports North America, who will focus on the 991 GT America and the new United Sports Car Racing series. We have already booked speakers from Porsche Cars North America, Mobil Oil, Michelin Tires and Performance Friction Brakes. Three PCA members are also part of the program: Jim Newton from Automobile Associates, Lou Verdiales, PCA Tech Committee member responsible for 911 turbos, and John Paterek. This will be John's 34th consecutive appearance at Tech Tactics. He was a presenter at the inaugural event at the Harley Hotel in 1981. Returning by popular demand the second annual "model car show" will be held in the Registration area. Dust off your favorite die-cast Porsche for a People's Choice event.

Continental breakfast, "box" lunches and a complimentary event tee shirt are included in the registration fee of $60. Registration will open on Feb. 4, 2014 on motorsportreg.com.

Snow-drift 356: Live vicariously through Jeff Zwart
Jalopnik
Jeff Zwart is an ace photographer and commercial director, and it's no secret that he'll drive just about anything at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb — a specially prepared, rear-wheel-drive 911 GT3 Cup car and a street-legal 911 GT2 RS come to mind. But he's also not afraid to drive bonafide classics, such as his 1953 356, in the most unimaginable places. Proving this point, he recently took his Pre-A 356 for a drive on a snow-packed Colorado mountain road and captured a slow-motion powerslide on video. We're not used to seeing these old Porsches being manhandled like this — we don't recommend it for anyone but the most skilled drivers — but we're happy to live vicariously through Zwart's cold-weather antics. Enjoy!
