Porsche Panorama, January 2014
PCA
The January 2014 issue of PCA's Porsche Panorama is on its way to your mailbox—and will also be available in digital form on January 15.

You probably read Pete Stout's first drive in a 918 prototype in the June 2013 issue, but now you can ride along as he tests the finalized 918 Spyder — Porsche's hybrid exotic with nearly 900 hp and more than 900 lb-ft of torque. Randy Leffingwell reveals the surprising history of a 1969 911 GTS, found in a New York Times classified ad back in 1973 — with a background that was entirely unexpected. Porsche's new X73 Sport Suspension option for the 981 Boxster is put to the test by Alexander Palevsky, as he takes to the challenging coastal roads of Southern California to review its performance against the finesse of the 987 Boxster Spyder. In Hot Tip, we meet a two-time 944 buyer who dreamt of a 911 Speedster after a chance meeting at a PCA Parade in 1989 — and drove the one he bought back to the scene of that Parade 24 years later. Finally, Bob Chapman spends time with teenage phenomenon Madison Snow, who has been driving a 911 GT3 Cup in IMSA competition since he was just 15 years old.

Of course, regular Panorama departments Art & Canvas, European Windows, Junior Driver, From the Regions, Street Talk, Tech Q&A, and zwART are all present and accounted for. We hope you'll enjoy the issue!

The 2014 Porsche 911 Targa: The world premiere of a modern classic
Porsche
At the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Porsche is introducing two new models to the 911 range: the 911 Targa 4 and 911 Targa 4S. These models are the first to combine the classic Targa concept with cutting edge, innovative roof technology. Just like the legendary original 911 Targa of 1965, the new models feature the distinctive Targa roof bar, a movable front roof section, and a wraparound rear window. But unlike the classic 911 Targa, the roof segment can be opened and closed at the push of a button. The fully automatic roof system stows the Targa top behind the rear seats.

Buying a certified preowned Porsche pays off
By Darrel J. Doré
In September, I embarked on my third trip across the United States since I retired in 2007 — and most importantly, my first cross-country trip in my 2009 Porsche Boxster. The last time I drove cross-country in a Porsche was 41 years earlier in my shiny, new Irish Green 1971 Porsche 911T. Needless to say, my head was filled with nostalgia and excitement. My delight quickly ended when a broken cable left me stranded on the side of the road. Thankfully, I had a certified preowned Porsche, and it certainly paid off.

Tech Tactics East 2014
PCA
The date has been set for the fourth annual Tech Tactics East at the Porsche Cars North America site outside of Easton, Pa. Please mark your calendars for March 1-2, 2014.

The format will be the same as in years past. Our very special guest this year from Porsche AG is Daniel Vasiliades, who is responsible for the marketing of the Macan. We will also feature Owen Hayes, Director of Operations Porsche Motorsports North America, who will focus on the 991 GT America and the new United Sports Car Racing series. We have already booked speakers from Porsche Cars North America, Mobil Oil, Michelin Tires and Performance Friction Brakes. Three PCA members are also part of the program: Jim Newton from Automobile Associates, Lou Verdiales, PCA Tech Committee member responsible for 911 turbos, and John Paterek. This will be John's 34th consecutive appearance at Tech Tactics. He was a presenter at the inaugural event at the Harley Hotel in 1981. Returning by popular demand the second annual "model car show" will be held in the Registration area. Dust off your favorite die-cast Porsche for a People's Choice event.

Continental breakfast, "box" lunches and a complimentary event tee shirt are included in the registration fee of $60. Registration will open on Feb. 4, 2014 on motorsportreg.com.

Once Porsche passion grabs hold, it doesn't let go
