Porsche AG sold more sports cars in 2012 than ever before: 141,075 customer deliveries equal an increase of 18.7 percent compared to last year's record of 118,868 vehicles sold. "We are looking back on the most successful year in our history," said Matthias Müller, President and Chief Executive Officer of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG at the Detroit Motor Show. "The commitment of our entire workforce was a key factor in achieving this result. We are well equipped to guide Porsche successfully through 2013." Over the past three years, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer has increased the number of vehicles delivered to customers by 83.9 percent. More

Dario Franchitti and his Porsche 911 hot rod
Clint Davis (blog)    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Clint Davis writes, "I got the call from Panorama (Porsche Club of America) to ask if I could make the drive to Tennessee to shoot Dario and his insanely immaculate, but well driven, 1973 911E hot rod. Of course these conversations are always humorous because how could I possibly turn that down?" More

This Porsche 968 is great, great, great
Jalopnik    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Patrick George writes, "I count myself as a big fan of all of Porsche's front-engined efforts from the 1970s through the 1990s, like the 928 or the 944. I think all of those cars look great and were (mostly) valiant attempts at trying something different from the brand's traditional rear-engine setup. Out of all those cars, few are as rare as this 968 cabriolet I ran into not far from my neighborhood just south of the Capitol." More

Production-ready Porsche 918 Spyder photo leaked
Digital Trends    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Nick Jaynes writes, "If we - and German automotive website Auto Bild - aren't confused, the photo above appears to be of a production-ready Porsche 918 Spyder, which would be very exciting indeed. Forgiving the 918's slight side resemblance to an elongated Audi R8 with a 911 nose, we think it's absolutely fantastic looking." More

In Germany, the company car is a Porsche
Bloomberg Businessweek    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Even though demand for cars in Europe has tumbled, BMW, Volkswagen, and Daimler's Mercedes-Benz are all likely to post record sales for 2012. Deutsche Telekom is partly to thank for that. Germany's largest phone company, which owns 38,000 vehicles in its home country, according to company reports, is taking advantage of tax breaks that have propped up the local auto market and turned company cars into a widespread employee perk. More than 85 percent of the high-end cars sold in Germany are registered to companies, including most of the Porsches in the tony sports car's home market. More

The Porsche Museum shows off the 911 RSR: Video
Motor Authority    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Porsche has always believed in the value of racing cars to build better street cars, and nowhere is this more obvious than with the iconic Porsche 911. In the early 1970s, Porsche 911 Carrera RSR models were the cars to beat in GT racing, scoring victories in Daytona, at the Nürburgring and in the Targa Florio. More

Watch the evolution of the Porsche 911: Video
The Sports Car Guys    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The Porsche 911 does not get recreated as other cars; it evolves. This is clear if you put a brand new Porsche 911 next to an early 60s 911. The lines of the car are similar, but they are clearly the same type of car. More
