Porsche R&D chief: Next GT3 RS will have brand new naturally aspirated engine
Auto Express via PCA
Information about the upcoming 911 GT3 RS mostly has been limited to rumors, but Porsche's research and development chief, Wolfgang Hatz, speaking with Auto Express, stated it will get a brand-new naturally aspirated engine and come with the PDK automatic transmission only. He also reportedly said a manual transmission for the RS "hasn't been ruled out in the long term." With this information, one can imagine the new RS will pick up where last generation's RS 4.0 left off.

Porsche Panorama: January 2015 issue available online
PCA
In the first issue of 2015, editor Pete Stout drives the new 911 Carrera GTS in "Fire on Sale" and wonders if it's as "perfect" as the last one. Ever wonder what catalyzed the use of 911s in competition? Bill Oursler gives the lowdown on the first 911 to win a major road race in "The One." In "Four of a Kind," David Mathews shows us what makes four PCA member concours participants tick. Doug Neilson shares the long story of a pre-A 356 that was privileged with a comprehensive restoration in "11111." The first US-spec 912 has been in the same family for the past 49 years, and Ted West gets to drive it in "First Born." And the last remaining PCA founding member, Gene Bussian of Milwaukee Region, shares some photos from his archive in "Sixty Years Later" by Louis Galanos.

Of course, regular Panorama departments Tech Q&A, European Windows, From the Regions, Street Talk, Art & Canvas, Junior Driver, and zwART are all present and accounted for. Enjoy the issue!

Robb Report names 918 Spyder 2015 Car of the Year
PCA
The Porsche 918 Spyder undoubtedly is an amazing technological achievement; one that puts 887 horsepower and 944 pound-feet of neck-snapping torque to the ground yet remains as docile as a 911 at low speeds and efficient thanks to its plug-in hybrid powertrain. Its dynamic character and the technology that makes it possible won the hearts of enough Robb Report judges for the luxury-lifestyle publication to name it 2015 Car of the Year.

Porsche 911 range goes turbo
Top Gear
The turbocharger continues its march across some of our most cherished engines. The next batch of Porsche 911s will get blowers for the mainstream models, Porsche's engineering chief Wolfgang Hatz said at the Detroit show. "You have to respect legal requirements [for lower CO2], so yes we're thinking turbos for standard 911s. You can't afford to keep an engine for 10 years any more."

Porsche's grand return to the elite level of global endurance racing showed mixed success in its first year. The company did score one victory in the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship season during the race in Brazil but finished in third place overall among the three factory manufacturers. Porsche is hoping for a few more wins in 2015 and is releasing its first shots of the updated car to achieve those triumphs when things kick off in April.

Hitching a ride in Porsche 959 Sport, Bugatti EB110 headed to auction
Los Angeles Times
They were the supercar poster children of the 1980s and 1990s: Porsche's groundbreaking 959 and Bugatti's EB110 graced countless magazine covers and bedroom walls, alongside other now-classics like the Lamborghini Countach and Diablo and the Ferrari F40. These machines are now finding their way to the auction block, with demand from a younger set of car collectors pushing values higher. Two pristine examples will go up for sale in the next few days in Arizona, at the annual Scottsdale classic car auctions.

Chris Harris gets filthy in a WRC-ready Porsche 911 RGT [w/video]
Auto Blog
Last time we rode with Chris Harris we were shotgun in the tan leather seat of his used-yet-immaculate Ferrari FF. This time we're strapped into a black racing bucket of a filthy Porsche 911 rally car, one that led Harris to effuse, "I don't think I've driven a more exciting car this year, hypercars included."

A race worth watching: GB Autosport ready for Rolex 24 at Daytona
By Sydney Scrogham
When I think of the Rolex 24, I remember trying to sleep in the middle of the night as a young kid in a strange RV inside a track that's louder and brighter than day. Looking back, I find my distaste for the night of this race kind of comical since it seems to hold so much anticipation and excitement for other people. Because I am the daughter of team manager Cole Scrogham, I tend to gravitate to wherever he has been in case I need an insider's scoop on racing news. That means, for the Rolex 24 at Daytona this weekend, I'm looking straight at GB Autosport.

Should I daily drive a Porsche Speedster replica?
Jalopnik
For those of you who aren't aware of the Porsche 356 Speedster market, allow me to explain the current pricing situation. When I was a kid, you could buy a 356 Speedster for approximately the same price as a bag of oranges. In fact, I distinctly remember one occurrence, when I was four, and I went to the grocery store with my mom, and there was a Porsche 356 Speedster parked outside with a "For Sale" sign on it. My mom looked it over, and thought about it for a minute, and hemmed and hawed, but ultimately she said: "I'm sorry, son, but we need to buy oranges this week."

Honda vetoed Alonso's 2015 Le Mans plans
ESPN
Honda scuppered Fernando Alonso's plans to drive for Porsche in the 2015 Le Mans 24 Hours "at the last second," according to German media. Alonso's future was the subject of much intrigue last year, with a sabbatical in sports cars mooted as a possibility before his move to McLaren-Honda was confirmed in December. But, according to prominent German magazine Auto, Motor und Sport, the Spaniard retained an interest in racing in Le Mans and hoped to secure a joint deal which would have allowed him to compete alongside his F1 duties, only for Honda to veto the deal at the eleventh hour.

More Macans should push Porsche sales to 50,000
Automotive News
Porsche dealers expect tight supplies of the new Macan midsize crossover to begin easing this year, with added production helping the brand's U.S. sales to top 50,000 vehicles for the first time. The Macan has been in hot demand since it went on sale in May in the U.S., said Mike Sullivan, owner of Pacific Porsche in Torrance, California, and a member of the Porsche Dealer Board of Regents.
