Behind the scenes with Dempsey/Del Piero Racing
By Cole Scrogham
Most sports car racing fans can't wait for the season to begin, with new drivers, car liveries and TV coverage sure to alleviate the winter withdrawal from their favorite sport. For some, the late season NASCAR events acted to soothe that withdrawal somewhat, but for diehard fans of the American LeMans Series only a return to Sebring would do. A new addition to the GTC ranks this season is the Dempsey/Del Piero Racing Porsche GT3 Cup entries, No. 10 and No. 27. This behind-the-scenes look at the first outing of the new Porsche team is much deeper than what fan can see on television, and a glimpse beyond the flash and excitement that many think racing is all about.

In the early morning hours of Feb. 9, 2013 the Porsche world lost a great friend, enthusiast, advocate, and mentor. At age 74, Bruce Anderson lost his epic struggle with heart failure after enduring thirteen months of hospitalization. Bruce came home briefly last June and was able to serve as the Chief Porsche Judge at the Carmel Concours on the Avenue in August.

Bruce is best known as author of The Porsche 911 Performance Handbook, currently in its third edition, and "The Bible" to all 911 enthusiasts. His additional journalistic achievements include regular columns in Excellence as Technical Editor, Flat Six (France), 911 Porsche World (UK), 911 (Japan), and Christophorus.

Bruce worked for Hewlett Packard from 1960 to 1976. He began as a technical writer and was Publications Manager at the Santa Clara Division when he decided to focus his endeavors on his love of Porsches. He and his partners opened a successful Porsche repair and tuning shop, and later founded an international racing team winning the IMSA GTR, GT and GTO Championships.

Stoddard recreates the Porsche steel wheel
Stoddard Parts
Stoddard's main focus has been keeping your vintage Porsche on the road ever since the company was founded in Cleveland in 1957. They have strived to keep parts available for restorers and enthusiasts alike — and until now, there hasn't been a satisfactory solution to aging and pitted steel wheels.

Now, Stoddard is proud to announce that the original classic steel wheels — pressed from the original German tooling — are back. These new wheels are made in the United States with modern high-strength steel and they are DOT tested and approved. The disc-brake wheels are available in three sizes, including 15x4.5, 15x5.5 and 15x6-inches and they come in concours-quality chrome or silver finishes. Pricing starts at $285 (USD) for the 15x4.5 wheel in silver — the chrome finish is $100 extra per wheel.

The new steel wheels are now shipping worldwide now from our Ohio facility. You can find out more at Stoddard.com European Distribution is handled by Classic Parts +49 (0)681 / 85 15 50 www.classic-parts.com

United SportsCar Racing explained
Grand-Am Road Racing
On March 14, 2013 United SportsCar Racing was unveiled as the new premier series beginning in 2014.

The name was chosen as a result of the specific meaning each word has. United is powerful and universally recognized for its true meanings; unity, collaboration, and synergy. In the short term it represents the uniting of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón. However, long term it represents the uniting of fans, partners, teams, drivers and sportscar racing as a whole.

Porsche Club of America to visit Traverse City, Mich., for 2013 Porsche Parade - Registration is OPEN!
PCA
PCA's showcase event, our annual Parade, will return to Traverse City, Mich., for the first time since 1989. A hidden gem for many, TC - as it's known to locals - is one of America's best-kept secret resorts. Known for its laconic beauty, its high-duned coast along Lake Michigan, and as the tart cherry-capital of America, TC offers a great variety of touring destinations, scenic, well-surfaced roads, beautiful vistas and a sophisticated small-town atmosphere as a home to a vibrant art, literature, and film community. Parade's host, The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, offers an amazing array of amenities, activities and facilities that will make this year's Parade one to remember. The Concours will be on-site, steps away from the hotel and Concours prep area. The two day autocross will be held at nearby Antrim County Airport. The Parade TSD and Gimmick Rallies will cruise through some incredibly beautiful scenery and visit several historically significant sites. And of course the Tech Quiz will have you wishing you'd read just one more book and checked your collections of manuals for the umpteenth time...

Let's not forget all the other great Parade activities for kids and adults that Parade has become known for over the years: the Art Show, the Hospitality Center, the driving and bus tours, the 5K Run/Walk, the RC car autocross and more, more, more! This year's Parade in Traverse City, Mich., is already gearing up to be another one to be talked-about for the ages. For more information, go to parade2013.pca.org Registration for the 2013 Porsche Parade opens on Tuesday, March 12, 2013.
