How much does a $2,500 944 Turbo really cost?
By Jason Gonzalez
When I am looking for a car to restore, race or rescue, I sort through a list of important things to look for and the dollar cost of a car with or without certain mechanical, cosmetic and general service items addressed. This is based on real experience earned in buying and selling several dozen 944s. The reality is that a well-sorted NA costs $5,000 and up, and Turbos are twice as much. As I sit here flipping through FSBO ads, I thought it would be cool to put my own tips and theories into practice and walk you through what I have encountered in the very car that's on the lift in my shop today.

Porsche at Le Mans — 1974 to 1981
Sports Car Digest
In June of 2014, Porsche will return to Le Mans with a newly designed LMP1 racing machine. With 16 overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the pinnacle of endurance motor racing, Porsche is the most successful manufacturer in the race’s history. Their last win, though, was back in 1998 with the 911 GT1, so Porsche has labeled this endeavor as “Our Return” and “Coming Home”.

Register for the Monterey Parade!
PCA
Parade will be held Sunday, June 15, until Saturday, June 21. Registration is now open. A guide to all events is on the Parade website at parade2014.pca.org, and you should use that to help you plan your week. All registrations will be accepted but be aware some events fill quickly and then go to a “waitlist” status.

The Parade registration system pulls its information from your PCA account, so please ensure you have all your information up-to-date, and that you know your PCA website logon information (user name and password). We especially need a current email, as all Parade information is sent to that email.

We are fortunate to have blocks at five different hotels this year — you will be in good company no matter which one you choose!  Once you have completed your Parade registration and have received the confirmation email (within a few seconds) with both your entrant number and special hotel authorization codes, you will be ready to reserve your accommodations. Remember that lodging reservations are subject to availability — you will want to book as soon as possible after registering for Parade to ensure your preference.

PCA National volunteer position available: RegionFocus Coordinator
PCA
We are looking for a volunteer to take RegionFocus to the next level. Rather than unilateral distribution of a lengthy newsletter, we are searching for a PCA Region Officer (past or present) who will send periodic articles to regional management and then promote discussion of relevant topics via a management forum on pca.org. That is, while the RegionFocus Coordinator will compile and distribute relevant articles, the RegionFocus Coordinator will need to be comfortable leading and moderating discussion in an online forum.
