"They come from all walks of life, but one thing members of the Porsche Club of America share is their passion for the German speed machine. The group was formed nearly 60 years ago. And while the cars have changed – a lot – the idea of spending a weekend with the guys and driving fast – really fast – has not."  Arash Arabasadi reports from the Virginia International Raceway.

Sitting like in an SUV, driving like in a sports car: the Cayenne GTS
Porsche    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The SUV with the driving fun of a sports car is entering its second generation. In Beijing, at the Auto China 2012, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is celebrating the world premiere of the new Cayenne GTS. Its concept: concentration on sporty performance. Its recipe: a more powerful engine, more dynamic power development, a tauter chassis with lower ride height, emphatically sporty equipment. In the process, the new Cayenne GTS doesn't just fill the gap between the Cayenne S and the Cayenne Turbo but also differentiates itself clearly from the other models with its own special character. TIME    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Nobody outside his family had seen or spoken to him in a long time, ever since he withdrew from the Porsche board seven years ago. Word had it then that Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was a very sick man, although neither his family nor the firm made any details public. On Thursday, April 5, Porsche died at the age of 76. He will be one of the rare car designers to live on through his work. More

The American Road. It's apple pie and ice cream in Iowa with Kerouac's Sal Paradise. It's an escape from "the frantic bustle" in Montana beside Steinbeck and Charley. Road test: New Porsche 911 is 7th heaven
The Scotsman    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Alan Douglas writes, "Many years ago a friend of mine wanted to enhance the driving experience of her brand new Mini. I thought at the time it was rather a drastic move. Armed with an electric drill, she crawled under the car and cut out several holes in the silencer. The result was a lovely rasping sound as she accelerated, and it was effective for as long as the silencer stayed together, which as I remember was only a matter of months." More
