The learning curve of Porsche racing: Anticipation, dejection, redemption
By Joe Lapin
After a lifetime appreciating sports cars, I finally decided to satisfy a long-held dream in 2009 — acquiring a red Ferrari. At age 7, my first Dinky Toy was a Ferrari, and I spent my adolescence making Ferrari models and reading about drivers Wolfgang von Trips, Phil Hill, et al. Owning a Ferrari was a lifelong dream, and a logical indulgence to make a reality. After intense research as an industrial designer and talking to the various mechanics and experts that I knew, it soon became obvious that a Porsche was a far superior product.

24 hour flat-out trip in a 993 to see the Nürburgring 24 hour race
Sportauto.ee
Estonian Porsche-drivers Kristjan Pappa and James Herne had an idea to drive to Nürburg to see the 24 hour race. To feel what the 24H drivers feel, they didn't plan overnight stops. The task was to drive the 1400 miles to Nürburg in 24 hours. As in Poland the highway speed limit is 140 km/h (87 mph), and in Germany half of the highways do not have speed limits at all, it was quite an easy task to accomplish.

During the three motorsport-packed days in Nürburg, there was also a three-hour classic car race on the 15-mile combined track. It was as astonishing experience as the 24 hour race itself. The latter really was a 14.5 hour race this year due to the poor weather (red flag out for 9.5 hours). After the Nürburg days, the next task was to find and photograph Porsche prototypes. This time they were really lucky and managed to get shots of the 2014 Panamera including LWB model, 2014 Macan, 2014 Cayenne, not to mention the undisguised 991 Turbo or a 968 prototype with electric gearchange on manual gearbox. But the most hair-raising was a prototype, which looked like a widened Cayman, but based on the sound it made and how quickly it moved, they guess it was the 2014 Le Mans engine tested inside this car.

Kristjan Pappa is the president of Porsche Club Estonia as of the this season. James Herne is the former president of PCE and bestowed lifetime member of Porsche Club Finland.

Italian designers make the Porsche Cayman S more exclusive
Motor Authority
Taking an existing machine, adding some coachbuilt bodywork, and making it an exclusive model is not a new practice. In fact, it's a very old one and it seems many an Italian design house have loved churning out rare exotica for decades. The practice continues today and it typically involves makes and models that are already a bit exclusive before the extra excess is tacked on.
