Register now for Escape to Magical Orlando!
PCA
It is time to register for Escape to Magical Orlando 2014, taking place at the beautiful Coronado Springs Resort at Walt Disney World Nov. 6-9. This is a great event for the whole family. The drives this year are truly exceptional and are filling up. Some of the drives, like the Kennedy Space Center lunch with the Astronauts, are a once in a lifetime event. There will probably never be another gathering of space explorers together in one place at one time. The opportunity to visit two of the greatest race courses in the country during one event is also unmatched.

These drives are rapidly filling up so if you plan to attend please go to ClubRegistration.net and get registered. There is a separate event there for the Goody Store. There will be no on-site Goody Store so order ahead and pick up your merchandise at the event. Take a look at Escape2014.pca.org for all of the current information.

2014 Open House attracts record number of attendees
PCA
Over 500 people and 300 Porsches attended the 2014 Porsche Club of America Open House on Saturday, kicking off Labor Day weekend with friends, Stuttgart’s finest automobiles, and plenty of food, drink, and raffle prizes.

The weather was ideal for the time of year — about 80 degrees with partly cloudy skies — perfect for avoiding sunburn, taking pictures of Porsches and the festivities, and socializing. That the humidity could pass for a subtropical climate was icing on the cake for the Hawaiian-themed event. And when members were ready to for an air-conditioned break, they were invited inside National HQ’s offices for tours hosted by Executive Director Vu Nguyen.

After a complementary casual picnic lunch, PCA started pulling winning raffle tickets in the front parking lot, a stone’s throw away from the PCA Goodie Store and two Macans on display for members courtesy of Porsche of Silver Spring. Prizes, included items from Bose, Pelican Parts, Toyo Tires (who gave away a set of tires), and a framed commemorative Porsche Parade 2014 photo donated by Pocono Region’s Novotnak family.

PCA HQ staff was pleasantly surprised to see registration numbers keep climbing past record levels leading up to the event, so we part ways until next year with this statement: When 2015 Open House registration opens, secure your spot before they all fill up!

How to drive Road America: Tips from a Porsche factory driver
PCA
We recently visited Patrick Long, Porsche Factory Racing Driver, at Wisconsin's Road America for the first TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race held at the track. It's fast, exhilarating, challenging, and four miles long — a combination that makes it a favorite venue for professional and amateur drivers alike. Armed with in-car footage of one of Patrick's practice laps in the #912 Porsche 911 RSR, we asked him if he would walk us through a hot lap with tips and commentary. Fortunately, he was happy to help us out. Watch the video below to learn the fast way around Road America. Enjoy!

The new Porsche 991 may be very different from past GT3s
By David Hurth
When the 991 variant of the Porsche 911 GT3 was unveiled, it took purists a bit by surprise. It was a major departure from previous GT3s with its electric steering, PDK-only transmission option and rear-wheel steering. However, once you get a chance to drive a 991 GT3, all of this goes away. The car is so, well, perfect that you still feel involved in the driving experience. Plus, on the track it is even more potent than the previous 997 variant. Porsche appears to be hoping that lightning will strike again and that they can win purists over with their race car for the street, the new 911 GT3 RS.

Auto review: 2014 Porsche Cayman S dishes out mid-engine mischief
The Indianapolis Star
When most people think of Porsche, they imagine the iconic 911. Like the 356 before it, the car's rear-engine design allows for a unique shape — and um, "unique" driving dynamics. Peel back a layer and you realize Porsche's greatest cars were mid-engine for balanced handing. James Dean's Spyder comes to mind, as does the Carrera GT and today's 918 hybrid supercar. Or, the Cayman S.

Removable roof on Porsche 911 Targa 4S offers California-cool factor
Los Angeles Times
Porsche's all-new 911 Targa 4S makes you wonder whether its engineers ever get any time off. You'd think these pocket-protected Poindexters would have been busy enough with the 918 Spyder, one of the fastest and most complicated hybrid supercars in the world. Same for the Macan, easily the best-handling small crossover around. And don't forget the 911 Turbo S, one of the most civilized 560-horsepower vehicles on the road today.

A Porsche reunion with a personal connection
The New York Times
Leo Levine writes in The New York Times, "A whole new world, one that included learning the difference between a racing driver and a driver of racing cars, came full circle here on the Central Coast recently, where I was reintroduced to my 1958 Porsche Speedster after more than half a century. All this began in January 1956 when I returned to Europe and to Stars and Stripes, the United States armed forces newspaper where, a few years earlier, I had completed my Army service alongside such future bright lights of the profession as Larry Merchant, later to become television’s outstanding boxing commentator."

Porsche Carrera GTs, 918 Spyder and more on the track
The Sports Car Guys
The Porsche Carrera GT is a modern day legend. The V10 powered performance machine represents the best of the old style supercars. These days these ultrahigh-performance automobiles are going the way of the hybrid. This has made them faster and more powerful, but they may not always be quite as much fun to drive as past supercars. This video features a Porsche Carrera GT with straight through exhaust pipes. It shows the car driving and captures the engine revs.

Stunning photoshoot of new Porsche Panamera models
GTspirit.com
Porsche has just revealed some awesome new pictures of its 2014 Porsche Panamera models which are set to hold us through until the next-generation example arrives in around 2017. The most potent variant of the 2014 Porsche Panamera range is the Turbo S. It is fitted with the same 4.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine as the standard Panamera Turbo. However, thanks to new turbochargers featuring larger compressors, higher injection pressure which sees it increase from 20 bar to 140 bar, pistons featuring a new aluminium alloy and specifically coated piston rings, the 2014 Porsche Panamera Turbo S produces an impressive 50 horsepower more. That results in peak power of 570 hp.
