Action-packed Fall Racing season is now in full swing
PCA
The rain held off and comfortable temperatures and cool breezes kept things comfortable at NJMP. Good hard-fought clean racing was a model of the weekend with the tone being set Saturday morning when an inverted split field lead to an exciting, incident free, first lap. Excellent driving and awareness lead to a tightly contested SPB class fighting through the split field.

Sunday’s action saw Matt Distefano lead a crowded Spec Boxster field in the blue sprint while taking the overall checkered flag in the race. Stuart Fain capitalized on his GTA2 and overall win, taking advantage of additional JX2 contingency offerings in the process. Evan Close was the class of E class, picking up a fistful of valuable championship points.

PCA Club Racing made its annual trip to Road America on Labor Day weekend. The weekend was highlighted by changing weather conditions that kept racers on their toes, a huge E class field, and even an on-track wedding, (Congratulations Joe and Heidi!).

The not-so-risky business of driver safety
By Skip Kuhn
"Who's the U-boat commander?" If you've seen the 1983 film "Risky Business," you will remember that line. For those who haven't, it's what the Porsche service manager asks 18-year-old Joel and his friends after recovering Joel's father's Porsche 928 from Lake Michigan. I'm fortunate to have four great children, three of whom are of driving age. Consequently, when it comes to driving, what they learn and how they learn it is one of my priorities. While I don't think I have any Joels in the crowd, I still have one 14-year-old boy to go, so I'm not letting my guard down just yet.

The 4-point principle
Porsche
Light is identity, by day as well as by night. It has attributes that also apply to Porsche sports cars: purist, unmistakable, striking. And it too follows the principle that a Porsche should be recognizable as a Porsche from afar. Since the introduction of daytime running lights, light has represented a new and fascinating challenge for Heinz Redlich, a designer at the Porsche Design Studio at the Weissach Research and Development Center.

Porsche 913 concept previews the Ferrari-fighter we've been waiting for
BoldRide via Yahoo Autos
Now that the 918 is all said and done, Porsche has its sights set directly on McLaren and Ferrari. If you think about it, between the 911 and 918, there's really nothing that competes directly with the 458 and McLaren 650S. At least, not yet. Word on the street is Porsche is working on that very vehicle. Unfortunately, we have no idea when said Ferrari-fighter will be here or what it will look like. But thanks to the power of Photoshop — and graphic designer Rene Garcia — this edgy Porsche 913 concept might be as close to the real thing as it gets.

Nothing can prepare you for driving a Porsche 918 at Laguna Seca
Road & Truck
David Gluckman writes about his experience in a 918 at Laguna Seca for Road & Track, "'Xbox is a great way to learn this track.' That's Hurley Haywood, a man who needs no introduction, shortly before I was to make my first lap around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. I planned for this. Before leaving for California, I borrowed an Xbox and a copy of Forza 5. Two laps in and it hit me like a migraine: the slow and painful realization that there's a reason I've never been into racing simulators."

The rock-star engine designer putting the punk into Porsche
OZY
Fuse a California hot-rod sensibility for old cars with a proper dose of German engineering, and what do you get? Matthias Höing. Or one of his multicolored classic Porsche 911s that practically flies off the road with a rebuilt engine. It wasn’t always like this in Germany. Far from it.

Porsche 911 (996) buyers guide — Current market value
The Sports Car Guys
When the Porsche 911 (996) made its debut it was a major change for the rear-engine sports car. It was the first 911 generation that was water cooled. This along with the shape of the headlights did not find favor with many 911 purists. Incidentally, those headlights are also how you can easily tell a 996.1 and 996.2 apart as the 996.1 has headlights with an egg look.

Porsche 911 Carrera makes shift work wonderful
The Wall Street Journal via MarketWatch
Dan Neil writes, "This is a writer's prerogative. I have no reason to favor you with another review of a Porsche 911 — the base model, no less ($92,185, as tested), just another cutie-patootie in the chorus line, with 19-inch summer tires, big steel brakes, and a seven-speed manual transmission. To be honest, in world of 580-hp Camaros, Chevrolet Z51s Corvettes and Nissan GT-Rs, the Porsche (350 hp/3,042 pounds) isn't even unusually fast. But as I hand back the keys after a couple hundred miles of disporting, my heart is full."

Porsche goes for faster and fuel-efficient
Automotive News
Faster … lighter … thriftier. Porsche engineers are striving for those characteristics in every product the brand brings out during the next several years, from entry-level models to its top-of-the-line supercar. Plug-in hybrids are proliferating throughout the lineup, and engine downsizing is underway. Porsche is exploring other segments, including an entry-level roadster, a small sedan and a sports car that would slot above the 911.

2015 Porsche Panamera: A sports sedan for every day
The Times-Picayune
Three hundred dollars. That's how much it costs to drive your car around the racetrack during track days at NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, Louisiana. Anyone can bring the family sedan or station wagon out to the track and put it through its paces. For a handful of lucky drivers, this represents something more than just an opportunity to exceed the speed limit without worrying about getting a ticket. For those who own a Porsche Panamera sports sedan, track days can serve as an affirmation.

Take 2 944s, and call me in the morning
Flussig
Joe Sharp writes, "In 2009 I was going through the worst period of my life. Long story short, I was diagnosed with severe clinical depression. Not knowing exactly what this entailed, I looked up 'clinical depression' and found that I had all ten of the top ten symptoms. The worst part, for me at least, was the overwhelming feeling that things would never get any better. But thankfully, I am doing much better today, and two 944s played a big part in my ongoing recovery."

The new Porsche 991 may be very different from past GT3s
By David Hurth
When the 991 variant of the Porsche 911 GT3 was unveiled, it took purists a bit by surprise. It was a major departure from previous GT3s with its electric steering, PDK-only transmission option and rear-wheel steering. However, once you get a chance to drive a 991 GT3, all of this goes away.
