Daily Finance    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
If you're still waiting for a merger between the parent companies of VW and sports car maker Porsche to close, don't hold your breath. VW's CEO is warning that it may not happen at all. "The chances are 70 to 30 that it comes to that," Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn said in an interview with Automobilwoche on the edge of a vehicle presentation. VW wants the transaction to add a large luxury car line. But, more is on the table than that. More

Wheels Unplugged    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Porsche is still dominating racing circuits internationally this season with their marquee products being the toast of the season. At the American Le Mans Series, there was Tenth GT drivers' title for Porsche pilots. At the finale on the Road Atlanta circuit in Georgia, Porsche works drivers Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long celebrated their title defense in the strongly-supported GT class. Since the start of the ALMS in 1999, Porsche pilots have won, amongst other accolades, 10 GT driver's titles. The outstanding efficiency of the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR once again yielded victory in the environmental Michelin Green X Challenge for Porsche. More

Porsche continues to consistently target fuel economy with each model change. Depending on the model, the savings achieved by all currently available model series in comparison with the corresponding predecessors lie in the double-digit percentage range whilst simultaneously offering significantly increased performance. With consumption reductions of 20 to 23 percent in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), the savings achieved by the new generation of Cayenne models are the highest. However, the new generations of the 911 and Boxster/Cayman sports car model series launched in 2008 also revealed savings of up to 16 and 15 percent respectively. More

Caught: Next-generation Porsche Boxster testing at Nurburgring
MotorTrend    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Testing for the next-generation Porsche Boxster continues at the Nürburgring, latest spy shots indicate. With the sub-Boxster vehicle program reportedly on hold, the next Boxster becomes more important than ever, functioning as the automaker's least expensive sports car. Currently, the Boxster's base price is $48,550, though few luxury features are to be found at the cheap end. The next Boxster is expected to be larger yet lighter than the outgoing car, presumably helping the convertible fly around the Nürburgring faster, while offering more comfort to its test driver. Porsche isn't all about breaking speed records anymore
Auto Racing Daily    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
This article's author was flying down a steep hillside when he glanced at the instruments and realized what he had achieved: a new personal best in a Porsche. But this wasn't the usual Porsche milestone, of some heroic track speed. Instead, he'd reached a more nerdy goal, recording a 30 miles per gallon highway average. What's more, that notable mileage was reached by a charging-rhino SUV, the Cayenne, that usually ranks among the most greedily consumptive Porsches. Not so, however, with the new Cayenne S Hybrid. The Wall Street Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Next month Porsche will begin selling its 2011 Cayenne S Hybrid sport-utility vehicle and in some ways the new vehicle is the surest sign that hybrid cars are will be mainstream within a few years. Perhaps more revolutionary is the prospect that soon "hybrid" will no longer be synonymous with "Prius." That’s because even though Porsche makes high-end sports cars few can afford, the company also has a history of developing technology that works well and increases performance. More
