Porsche to replace hood lock bracket on 4,428 two-door vehicles worldwide
Porsche
As a precautionary measure, Porsche is conducting a voluntary safety recall to replace the lock bracket on the front hood of 4,428 two-door sports cars worldwide, of which 1,382 are in the U.S. The affected vehicles are limited to model year 2014 and 2015 911, Boxster, and Cayman vehicles. Ongoing internal quality inspection procedures found that while these vehicles pass all current strength requirements, it was determined that these specific parts may not meet Porsche-specific quality standards throughout the life cycle of the vehicle. No incidents, accidents or injuries have been reported to Porsche, nor any instances of an unintentional opening of the front hood.

Porsche Club of America’s Fall 2014 Member Only Raffle has begun, and there’s excellent reason to purchase at least one $50 ticket: a chance to win a Boxster or Cayman GTS plus $25,000 cash. Click here to register.

Porsche’s mid-engined sports cars are the most recent models to receive GTS badging, earned through higher levels of performance than their S counterparts. A 15-horsepower bump for both cars endows the Boxster GTS with 330 hp and the Cayman GTS with 340, while Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Sport Chrono package, which includes goodies such as dynamic transmission mounts, Sport Plus mode, and launch control, are standard. The sport exhaust system is also standard, and the GTS models maintain the option for a six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed PDK automatic.

Porsche-themed special edition cabinets to be introduced
Contur Cabinet Ltd.
Contur Cabinet Ltd., a premium metal cabinet manufacturer, will be launching the company's first themed special edition cabinet set this fall. Inspired by the iconic Porsche RS series of sports cars, the new RS Edition pays tribute to the racing heritage of these fine automobiles. This special edition cabinet set possesses distinctive features that are reflective of the brand itself; such as bright red racing stripes that adorn the base cabinet door faces, red-trimmed pull handles and cabinet legs as well as white-stitched red nylon pull-down straps for the overhead swing-up doors. The iconic RS logo is also silk-screened onto the overhead door panels. For an added special touch, an actual metal VIN number plate with a factory production number is riveted directly onto the cabinet chassis. A personalized VIN number plate with custom numbering is also available.

About an hour northeast of Los Angeles, nestled among the Joshua trees and the hush-hush R&D operations of the aerospace industry, sits the home of Emory Motorsports. Porsche cashes in on turnaround with consultancy business
Reuters via Yahoo Finance
Just as sports car fans adore the Porsche 911, so company bosses are in awe of the automaker's industry-leading profit margins, allowing it to develop a consultancy business with a growing list of high-profile clients keen to find out how it's done. British Airways, German software company SAP, healthcare firm Fresenius Medical Care and Swiss bank UBS are among the diverse businesses to have turned to Porsche in recent years for management advice.

Some assembly required — Magnus Walker's Porsche 911 67S RT build
Stance Works
In the week of Nov. 9-15, automotive companies and enthusiasts will travel from around the world to convene in Las Vegas for SEMA. As we near the last few days before the big show, there are still builders frantically rushing to complete the last finishing touches on the impressive show cars that line the countless rows of the convention center. As the premier automotive aftermarket trade show, SEMA is the place where many of the world's top builders display their latest projects while companies show off new products for the upcoming year. Though Magnus Walker certainly isn't new to the realm of car builds, 2014 marks the first year that he'll attend SEMA to display his work. In his usual unique ways, however, Magnus is taking a step off the beaten path and bringing an incomplete car to Vegas.

SPOILER ALERT — Porsche 911 RSR in China
Motorsport
Stuttgart. Important success for Porsche at the six-hour race in Shanghai: On the Grand Prix circuit at the outskirts of China's economic powerhouse, the 911 RSR fielded by the Porsche Manthey squad secured the second double victory of this year's Sports Car World Endurance Championship in front of 45,000 spectators. Crossing the finish line as the winner after 167 laps were the French Porsche works drivers Frédéric Makowiecki and Patrick Pilet, with second place going to their factory pilot colleagues Jörg Bergmeister of Germany and Richard Lietz of Austria. Currently ranking second in the manufacturers' championship, this success has enabled Porsche to make further headway in the fight for the title.

2015 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid review: The SUV that shouldn't, but does
Yahoo Autos
In Germany, as elsewhere in the world, pet parakeets occasionally escape, or are "liberated," from their cages or from importation quarantine pens. These tropical birds should not be able to survive in the harsh winter, and with their foreign upbringing and acid-green plumage should make excellent prey for local predators. However, somehow, they've not only survived, but thrived. On the grounds of a riverfront castle we visited southwest of Frankfurt, flocks of them flapped, squawked and clustered in the sycamore trees. We stood amidst this avian plague in a break from driving the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid, and it occurred to us that the new vehicle — the third plug-in hybrid in the manufacturer's ever expanding range — was very similar to the feral parrots. It behaves in a way that it shouldn't, but it succeeds.

Porsche 911 Carrera GTS: The newest driver's 911
By David Hurth
The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS (991) will make its debut at this month's Los Angeles Auto Show. In recent years, the GTS label has denoted what many consider to be the best models. The 911 GTS comes standard with many options over the Carrera S, and these help make it a special automobile. For the starting price of $114,200 for the Carrera GTS Coupe, you get a more powerful 911. The GTS has 430 horsepower and can go from 0-60 mph in just 3.8 seconds when equipped with the PDK transmission.

Porsche: The hedge fund that also made cars
Priceonomics
In 2008, Porsche was cruising. The luxury car manufacturer generated $13.5 billion in pre-tax profit, and sold a record 98,652 automobiles — a staggering $136,000 profit per car sold. Even for a luxury brand, the numbers seemed nearly impossible. Upon closer inspection, $11.5 billion dollars of that profit wasn't from selling cars — it was from speculating on financial derivatives: Porsche was furtively amassing a sizable position in call options to buy up Volkswagen shares. As a report from the BBC put it, Porsche was "a hedge fund with a carmaker attached." In 2008, the car business was good, but the financial engineering business was even better.

Favorite Porsche:
"Being pretty new to Porsches, I think Porsche enthusiasts may understand when I say that my favorite Porsche is the one I got to drive! I really love the look of those '60s and '70s 911's. I have never gotten to drive a 911, or any Porsche for that matter, until recently when I had an opportunity to get behind the wheel of a 2015 Macan. Wow! It felt like the car was reading my mind because if the idea of accelerating flitted through my thoughts and my toe twitched a little, I started to speed up. If I lightened up on the gas just a bit, the Macan felt like it was disappointed. It clearly wanted to go fast, and I could tell the other drivers around me — who were all watching — also wanted to see what it could do. It was hard to be responsible with such temptation, but I don't take risks with things that don't belong to me so I didn't push it ... much. When I got out of the car, my very first thought was, 'Well if I want to do Club Racing I need to start with DE.' And then I came back to reality and gave the car back. But now I understand a lot more about the passion around here. It was completely exhilarating!"
