The everyman Porsche: Cayenne
By David Mathews
Ten days and 748 miles ago, I bought a brand-new 2014 Porsche Cayenne. This one is third in our Cayenne continuum, an SUV lineage that is pure Porsche, save two ill-conceived and misbegotten vehicles that I immediately shed. This Cayenne is diesel-powered. It provides an appealing, yet quirky practicality. I am liking it more with each passing mile and with each passing service station. To date, my mileage is 30.8 mpg. My infatuation is about more than fuel economy, however.

November issue of PCA's Porsche Panorama is on its way
PCA
The November 2013 issue of PCA's Porsche Panorama is on its way to your mailbox—and will also be available in digital form on November 15.

In this issue, you'll find Ted West's tale of one doctor's 1996 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, a well-worn 993 that's gone the distance of six-hundred Indy 500s (in case you're doing the mental math, that's 300,000 miles!). He follows it with a feature on his time in 981s and 991s at Porsche's Canadian Camp4, that school of ice driving and, er, self respect. In our ongoing celebration of the 911's 50th anniversary, Senior Editor Bill Oursler tells us how the hallowed RSR nameplate got its start in North American racing, and why it owes much of its success to the crafty politics of one man. Features about more PCA members' cars follow. The first, written by Ada Lee Halofsky, covers a fantastic green 1956 356A coupe saved by a couple who fell for the 356 and just had to have one. Then author/photographer Zach Mayne introduces us to a young PCA member who went all out to build the car of his dreams: a 3.1-liter 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo S.

Of course, regular Panorama departments Art & Canvas, European Windows, Junior Driver, From the Regions, Street Talk, Tech Q&A, and zwART are all present and accounted for. We hope you'll enjoy the issue!
