Mar. 15 issue - A Porsche once owned by the "King of Cool," Steve McQueen, is being sold at auction this summer. The 1970 911 S is itself a veteran of the silver screen, having been featured in the opening sequence of McQueen's epic tribute to his love of automobiles and motorsports, "Le Mans." It was used as the actor's personal car during the filming of the movie in France while he was living in a rented 30-room 15th century chateau. The car is mentioned in book, Steve McQueen: The Life and Legend of a Hollywood Icon, in a passage where the star takes a Hollywood executive visiting the set on a 100 mph ride through the French countryside.

Feb. 1 issue - A racing legend was the early leader in the GT class, and a Hollywood idol was out front at sunrise. But at the end, the car that started dead last in the Rolex 24 at Daytona was in Victory Lane. The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for Andy Lally, Brendan Gaughan, Steven Bertheau, Wolf Henzler and Spencer Pumpelly started 48th after their qualifying time was disallowed for an improperly positioned rear wing.

Aug. 9 issue - PCA's "Revive the Passion" restoration/raffle project came to a close at the Porsche Parade. Together with Porsche Classic, Porsche AG, and Porsche Cars North America, PCA unveiled the '73 to the world at the concour event held at Forsyth Park in Savannah, Ga., on August 1. Later in the week, Parade attendees were treated to daily presentations on the restoration process. And finally on Saturday, August 6, attendees joined in the fun to surprise Bud Kibbee with the news that he won the PCA Member Only Grand Prize.
