Social media: A double-edged sword
ITWeb

"Social media can have a major impact on business continuity management. But even companies that don't have a formal social media strategy need to take it into consideration in their risk management and business continuity planning," says David Bollaert, senior BCM consultant at ContinuitySA.

Supply chains still avoiding risk management
Fresh Business Thinking
A new report, which shows that European supply chains across a range of sectors have the highest level of factory fire risk highlights a worrying but unsurprising revelation, says supply chain consultancy, Crimson & Co. The report found that while only 6.6 percent of African supply chains fail to comply with safety measures, 13.5 percent of European supply chains fail to comply with safety measures, "signifying a global issue which isn't reserved for non-European countries, as many may assume," commented Tom Woodham, director of leading end-to-end supply chain consultancy, Crimson & Co.

US energy boom fuels economic recovery
Fox Business
The U.S. economy is expanding in fits and starts, but at least it is moving in the right direction. The first estimate of second quarter GDP came in at 1.7 percent which was slightly lower than the 2 percent guesstimate. The first revision to second quarter spending was raised to 2.5 percent, but a large part of the increase was due to increases in business inventory. This will slow if consumption does not pick up. The other factor in the upward revision was growth in exports.
