If you're looking for signs the economy's recovering, you'll find them in Elkhart County, IN, where 70 percent of the nation's RVs are built. Jayco, the nation's third largest RV maker, is building twice as many trailers and motor homes as it did a year ago. It's also hiring back many of the workers it furloughed during the recession. Marketing director Sid Johnson calls his business a good economic indicator. More

Federal government releases $3.5 million to help RV workers

The U.S. Department of Labor says it is releasing $3.5 million from an emergency grant to provide services to workers hit by layoffs in the RV industry. The grant announced last week is part of $10.3 million in aid approved in September 2008, of which $3.5 million was initially released to assist about 900 of the more than 2,000 workers affected by RV layoffs. More

To mark the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day and to celebrate the launch of the Obama Administration’s America’s Great Outdoors initiative, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced last week a schedule of free admission days to many of the lands managed by the Interior. All national parks, national wildlife refuges, and many areas managed by the Bureau of Land Management will offer free admission on June 5-6, Aug. 14-15, Sept. 25 (Public Lands Day), and Nov. 11 (Veterans Day).
