RVDA and more than 30 other national organizations wrote Congressional leaders recently to praise the National Scenic Byways Program and lobby for its continuation under any new federal surface transportation program. The NSBP was created in 1991 and now includes 150 designated routes in 46 states. Its advocates told Congress the routes offer visitors "world-class opportunities for scenic, recreational, cultural and historic experiences" and enrich the lives of the American people. The routes also provide economic vitality to thousands of communities thanks to the visitors they draw. More

The Wall Street Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Wall Street Journal columnist Ralph Gardner, Jr. writes about his recent RV trip: "I've always dreamed of taking a trip in an RV. In my mind's eye, the journey would consume at least several months and stretch from Niagara Falls to the redwood forests of Northern California, and then back through Death Valley to the Florida Keys. And all of it would be experienced from the sumptuousness and civility of my fully equipped, state-of-the-art recreational vehicle." More

The Topeka Capital-Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Jeff King was on the great American fast track, working long hours as an investment portfolio manager. Then his wife of 20 years succumbed to cancer, and life in the fast lane lost its appeal. King decided to buy a 35-foot Winnebago so he could spend an entire season watching his sons play baseball at Kansas State. "I've had the thrill of a lifetime watching Jason and Jared play," he says. "These are the lifetime memories I was looking for when I decided to do this. This is what I've learned—don't talk about what you want to do. If you've got an opportunity to do it, you do it." More

Ocala Star-Banner    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Can an RV be an artwork? Chris and Sally Mendola say yes. Chris has spent hundreds of hours airbrushing their ALiner Classic model pop-up trailer—dubbed "Snoopy Twoo" —with pictures of biplanes done in a Snoopy-versus-the-Red Baron motif. And that's just for starters. There are also pictures symbolizing various destinations the couple has visited, including penguins, moose, and bears. This is the Mendolas' second piece of rolling art; the first Snoopy trailer was damaged in a Montana windstorm. More
