Connecticut culls solar bids, connects with 2

After fielding nearly two dozen proposals, the Connecticut state government will tap two large solar energy projects to help meet its goal of generating 27 percent of its electricity from renewable resources by 2020. The two projects, East Lyme Solar Park and Somers Solar Center, were selected from 21 projects submitted in response to a request from the state's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. New York governor calls for more investment in solar, transmission

Gov. Andrew Cuomo proposed quadrupling New York's solar capacity by 2013 and called on investors to fund $2 billion in new transmission infrastructure. "We will increase competitive procurement of large, commercialized solar projects. And we will expand rebate programs for residential and commercial small-to-medium systems," said Cuomo, according to prepared remarks for his annual State of the State Address. More

Skyline Solar breaks ground on solar power plants at 2 military bases

Skyline Solar of Mountain View, Calif., is set to announce it has broken ground on two 100-kilowatt solar power plants at domestic military bases — Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California and Fort Bliss in Texas. Skyline's contract from the Department of Defense is worth a modest $1.85 million, but the company hopes it will go a long way toward proving its product. More

Northern Indiana utility wins with solar feed-in tariff

Since the Northern Indiana Public Service Company launched its feed-in-tariff pilot program last year, solar power installations in the area have skyrocketed. Nick Meyer, spokesman for NIPSCO, said that a new project proposed by Lincoln Solar to install 6,800 solar panels in Merrillville, Ind., is just the latest in a string of proposed projects. More

Solar Power gets $44 million in financing for New Jersey project

Solar Power Inc. has secured $44 million in financing from China Development Bank to build a solar project with KDC Solar in New Jersey. Separately, Solar Power's biggest shareholder, LDK Solar, secured $20 million in financing from the same bank for two projects it is developing in California through engineering, construction and procurement contracts with Solar Power. Report: Clean tech investments surged in 2011

Despite a weak global economy, investments in clean technology such as solar power and energy efficiency rose 13 pecent worldwide last year and 30 percent in North America, a research firm reports. North America, which accounted for 76 percent of global investments, raised $6.81 billion last year. Its total number of deals, 470, was up 25 percent from 2010, according to preliminary 2011 data released by Cleantech Group. More
