Breakout year expected as U.S. solar sector posts 37 percent growth
BrighterEnergy    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The solar industry is expecting 2010 to be a "breakout year," as new figures showed strong growth in 2009, despite the recession -- particularly in the residential market. Some 17,000 new jobs were created directly or indirectly by the solar industry as the nation's generating capacity grew by 37 percent, pushing through the 2,000MW barrier for total output. The pipeline of developments lined up in the U.S. also suggests strong years ahead. More

Gartner projects global PV installations will exceed 8GW in 2010
PV-Tech Daily News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Market research firm Gartner has drastically revised upwards its forecast for global PV installations in 2010. A key knock-on effect of the significant growth few had projected for the German market, which saw at least 3.8GW installed in 2009, Gartner said that global PV installations will exceed 8GW in 2010 and potentially reach 10GW. Home solar panels doubled electric output last year
USA Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail
article
Homes generated twice as much power from rooftop solar panels last year than in 2008, says a new report by the solar power industry. These photovoltaic systems were buoyed by expanded federal tax credits and falling PV prices, causing them to produce 156 megawatts of electricity in 2009, up from 78 megawatts a year earlier, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association. Tax cuts, renewable energy grants attract unlikely allies

Colorado launches solar, energy rebate program
getsolar    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Colorado customers of Xcel Energy and Black Hills Energy have for several years been able to take advantage of solar rebates. The rebates reduce the out-of-pocket cost of installing solar photovoltaic systems, which encourages more homeowners to install solar panels. To offer a similar option to individuals who aren't customers of Xcel or Black Hills, Colo., is launching a new energy rebate program in conjunction with a new Web site Recharge Colorado. More

FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The 11th annual Coachella Festival took place over the weekend in Southern California, featuring art, music and possibly the most unique California solar installation to date: a giant origami-style crane. Dubbed Ascension, the outdoor structure was the work of the Crimson Collective, a Los Angeles-based group of artists, architects and designers. The crane -- which was 45-feet high and had a 150-foot wingspan -- made full use of the blistering Southern California sun, providing shade for festival goers during the day and, with the help of two solar panels and batteries, powering lights once the sun went down.
