Total takes 60 percent stake in US solar panel maker SunPower

French oil and gas company Total has announced that it is to take a 60 percent stake in US solar panel manufacturer SunPower as part of an estimated $1.38 billion investment in solar power. As well as taking a controlling share in the company, Total will also provide the California-based company with up to $1 billion of credit support over the next five years. More

Wells Fargo recently announced that it will soon invest up to $120 million to fund U.S. solar PV power projects developed by SunEdison over the next year. According to Wells Fargo, the funding comes as an addition to a previous provision of $200 million for a SunEdison solar investment fund that was established in 2007 and culminated in approximately 150 solar projects in eight states. Constellation buys Sacramento, Calif., solar project

Constellation Energy Group Inc. has purchased a 30-megawatt solar power generation project in Sacramento, Calif., giving the company nearly 100 megawatts of solar power capacity. Constellation acquired the project from Newark, Calif.-based Belectric Inc. It is still under construction and expected to be up and running by the end of the year. More

The Solar Gardens Institute is becoming a central clearing house for solar garden hosts, subscribers, developers and financiers. Interest has been growing rapidly in Colorado for some time and in June 2010, the legislature passed the Community Solar Gardens Act, spurring even more demand. Venture capital sweeps into clean-tech industry

Venture capitalists spent the first quarter of the year dousing the clean-tech industry with more money, hiking investment in solar and other green companies. Though the number of deals fell to 69 from 79, companies raised $1.1 billion in the first three months of 2011 compared with $743.3 million in the same period last year, according to a report. More

Bill Donnelly is going as green as he can. He drives a Prius. By next year, he hopes to have an all-electric vehicle. And to keep his car and home running, he wants to install solar panels on the roof of his home in the South Carthay neighborhood of Los Angeles. But Donnelly, 63, has put his solar plans on hold, at least until he finds out how much the L.A. Department of Water and Power will kick in. More

Linda Adams, secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency, has honored PsomasFMG with a Certificate of Achievement in Sustainability for the successful completion of a public-private partnership project for the Antelope Valley Union High School District.
