    Solar energy systems engineers needed

    RTI International, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Labor, has been asked to assist in identifying Solar Energy Systems Engineers to participate in a project that helps accurately describe their occupation. The project needs individuals who have at least five years experience as a practicing or supervising Solar Energy Engineer and are still performing in the occupation. Qualified volunteers are asked to complete questionnaires about the tasks, work context, and knowledge requirements of their occupation. This is an excellent opportunity to have input as to how this occupation is presented. To participate, please contact Chris Fine at cfine@onet.rti.org with "SEIA Solar Engineer" as the subject.     SiC Processing doubled the production at its Swan Island plant last year, where each month it now produces more than 800 tons of the chemical slurry used to slice silicon wafers. Two years from now, it plans to begin production at a second facility, this time in Hillsboro, Ore., that after nearly $15 million in investment would bring its monthly capacity to 200 tons. More

    A private firm announced a $70 million plan to build Maryland's largest solar energy project on the grounds of a state prison near Hagerstown to generate electricity for the wholesale market. Maryland Solar LLC of Easton said it is seeking speedy approval by state utility regulators and a long-term lease on 250 state-owned acres surrounding the medium-security Maryland Correctional Institution.
