Colorado-based solar financier Main Street Power Company, Inc., and Morgan Stanley subsidiary MS Solar Solutions Corp. have secured financing for 2.9 megawatts of distributed generation solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The 35 systems will be operational by the end of 2011 and are located throughout the state of California - including the San Diego Unified Schools, University of California at Davis and Contra Costa County. DOE grants $145 million for development of solar technologies

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has made over $145 million available to 69 solar projects across the country. The goal is to position the U.S. as an industry leader. Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced that a total of 69 projects in 24 states will receive a funding boost to develop their solar technologies under the DOE's SunShot initiative. More

Photon Finance LLC has been selected as one of three companies to develop distributed solar power systems on more than 11 naval facilities in Hawaii. The $500 million multiple award contract was competitively procured; 13 bids were received in response to a Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific request for proposal. Projects are expected to be issued within the next 12 months and completed by August 2016. More

Hollywood recently signed an interconnection agreement with Florida Power and Light as part of its Solar Wind and Energy Efficiency Project. The city's SWEEP project involves the installation of solar panels at four facilities: City Hall, the Hollywood Beach Culture and Community Center and Fire Stations 74 and 105. In addition, wind turbines will be used to generate power at the community center. More

The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has produced and made available a rich data set showing what happens, second-by-second, when clouds pass over a solar power installation.
