Solar energy: Is it time for it to shine?
The Associated Press via Colorado Springs Gazette    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Solar energy may finally get its day in the sun. The high costs that for years made it impractical as a mainstream source of energy are plummeting. Real estate companies are racing to install solar panels on office buildings. Utilities are erecting large solar panel "farms" near big cities and in desolate deserts. Creative financing plans are making solar more realistic than ever for homes. More

How solar can make data centers more efficient
GigaOM    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Pairing solar with data centers may not be a novel idea, but you'll have a hard time finding companies that rely solely on solar electricity to power their servers. That's because many of those servers need a reliable power source like the brain needs a steady supply of blood — solar energy is variable (it flows only when the sun shines). More

Jump starting the solar economy means bringing solar to every home, one neighborhood at a time
TriplePundit    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Solar power, a long promoted antidote to the looming perfect storm of energy, environmental and economic crises, has been getting a drubbing in the press recently. Since Solyndra shut its doors in early September, many critics have asked whether the government should be "picking winners" through programs like low-interest loans to manufacturers of solar panels like Solyndra. Many are also wondering whether solar energy will (ever) be a source of green jobs. More
