Solar-powered plane aims to fly around the world

Two Swiss gentlemen have built a plane which they hope to fly across the United States next spring and then around the world without burning an ounce of fuel. The plane is called Solar Impulse and it's powered entirely by the sun. It is not the first solar airplane, but it is the first that can fly at night. More

Inverter maker to bring 70 jobs to San Antonio

OCI Solar Power will partner with a German solar inverter manufacturer to bring 70 jobs to San Antonio. The company, KACO new energy, will set up a factory and office as part of the commitment to create 800-plus jobs locally for CPS Energy's 400-megawatt solar project, expected to supply electricity for about 70,000 households. Navy builds solar power farm near Norfolk base

The Navy has completed construction of the largest solar energy project in Virginia, a 10-acre landscape of black solar panels in neat rows within sight of the Chesapeake Bay and the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. The solar farm contains more than 8,600 panels, just outside the fenceline of Norfolk Naval Station. More

Solar-powered storage could save crops

A new product, a food-storage device that uses solar panels to cool produce and preserve crops on their way to market, is set to roll out in India. It's needed where 30 to 40 percent of the harvest is lost because of the lack of cold-chain facilities to store and transport food.
